I've read the book, have the soundtrack, and have seen clips of the show on YouTube. My favorite Elphaba is Idina, most likely because she was the first Elphie I ever came across, and after one gets used to one voice it's hard to really like another.I want to see this so badly, and surprise my best friend with tickets for her 16th birthday, but I doubt that will happen.
I don't know about you guys but after watching Wicked in Melbourne, I no longer see the Wicked Witch of the West as the same anymore. When I first saw the Judy Garland movie as a child I thought "ok she is a typical villian, doesn't like people very much, really wants power, will hurt those who stand in her way, a dead ugly person (in the musical she is not so ugly) and quite a big bad bully with powers"
But after the musical I was surprised she was not an evil woman in the first place. She is an intelligent but lonely girl who doesn't agree with the Wizard of Oz's laws on Animals. And the big question that Glinda asks is "Are people born wicked, or is wicked thrusted upon them?"
By the way I have a song in my head right now "defying gravity"
So if you care to find me
Look to the western skies
Because some one told me lately
Everyone deserves a chance to fly
And when I'll be flying solo
I will be flying free!
