Why does God choose those whom he does?.
Im reduced to tears that God would choose to redeem me and not those i esteem more worthy than me !?
I know God is no respecter of persons or moral attributes of others, but when i look at the vileness of my own inclinations to sin and almost constant bias toward rebellion i wonder why he would choose to grant me eternal life!!
This is probably the greatest mystery to me!

1 Corinthians 1:26-31
For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God--and righteousness and sanctification and redemption-- that, as it is written, "He who glories, let him glory in the LORD."

I will tell you that I know no worse sinner than myself yet God has found it glorifying to Himself to raise me from the stench of my fallenness and redeem me. I never wonder why the Lord chose me because I know of too many reasons why He shouldn't have, and even those reasons are only the tip of the iceberg. I just try to remind myself of His grace in doing so and pray that I am thankful for His great and glorious work on my behalf and repent when I am not. It is the magnificence of His atonement that brings the clarity of His gift to the forefront of my life. When I am reminded of the great thing He has done for me I have a greater understanding of the way in which He humbled Himself for my sake. I truly believe that if we would all really focus on the great debt of which He has forgiven us we would be less likely to ever notice the faults of others, much less respond in unrighteousness to those faults. We are all just sinners my brother. We are all guilty of treason on a level that even we don't comprehend. The more God matures our faith the greater knowledge we have of the gulf that separated us from Him and the lengths He went to to make us His beloved.

God bless,
Don

Good Day, Oworm

I will second what Don said with a :amen: and say it so all can hear, not bad for a baptist :D . I feel what you are saying here I remember my own enlightenment to the doctrines of grace, this question brought me to tears. So much so that I had to turn off the teaching of RC Sproul, because I was blubbering like a baby and I was at work.

I do not know the answer to the question, but this much I do know it does not matter 1 bit that I do not know the answer. The God above knows and that is good enough for me.

Peace to u,

Bill

I have lost count the times I have asked the same things and I am left always to just marvel that God saves sinners. The fact He saved me is the greatest wonder of all. What you have written is I am sure the experience of all Gods people at some time or another.Amazing Grace.:)

PS 23:3 he restores my soul.

He guides me in paths of righteousness

for his name's sake.

Of course im sure you were all aware that it was for his own glory and maybe i could venture to say that its for the reputation of His name that restores my soul and leads me in the paths of righteousness.

I just finished reading "The Lord our Shepherd" by: J.Douglass MacMillan. Its an excellent little read written by a former shepherd of sheep. He really does Psalm 23 a service!

A part of the reason is given us in the text brother Reformationist quoted.....
