Hi Katydid, If your husband was a neighbor of mine I'd salute him in a civilian sort of way. I'm sorry to hear you've had such a rough go of it. ! Most of my friends who are in the military are very loving, caring people, many of whom are also Christians. And all of them fine Republicans I might add
My dad was in the US-Army Air Force during WWII as a B-24 bomber radio operator instructor getting the radio crews ready for their missions abroad. Though he is a very liberal democrat, and not a "Born Again" believer...he none the less is very proud that my wife and I have a daughter (whom we homeschooled- but that's another story) who is a mechanic in the USAF.
I did not serve in the military as my dad was very much against the US involvemnt in Vietnam so i realy did not stand a chance of encouragement from my parents, which at that time in the early 70's desperately sought in crazy times in the San Fransico Bay area of California.
When we were thinking of "Careers" for our daughter, I could not think of a more honorable service to one's country than serving in the military. After much investigation on her part during her senior year of home schooling, she took the ASVAB, scored a 96, and enlisted in the AF as a mechanic wanabe. She graduated 2nd in her class and is now at an air base in Turkey.
She is not going to "Hell" any more than any other solder that loves God and wants the best for their fellow countrymen/women and those who are fighting for true freedom throughout the world.
Our 16 year old son is also hoping to enter the USAF, and we are encouraging and assisting in whatever way makes sense. . . We've joined the Civil Air Patrol (run by the USAF-Auxiliary; same regs for cadets that USAF has for physical training and command structure), and he is 1/2 way to getting his private pilots license.
There will be a lot of solders in heaven i'm sure!
Cheers,
Thom
