Why?

I have been drudging the annels of the internet for many years now, reading, following, and even sometimes having intelligent discussions on the subject of theology.

But nowhere in my life have i ever seen such a hypocritical display of childish behavior on both sides. Atheism vs. Christianity.

Do not get me wrong i do not mean to say that ALL Christians or Atheists act as such, simply that the examples of how each group stereotypically views each other is as such.

Some Quotes (stumble-upon bought me to them as it had before to other conversations, these simply stirred me to come here so they were on hand)

The athiest couple quickly put on a pair of black robes and hoods. They then exit the house, and run into the street, where a Christian is nailed to a large, wooden X. He is being burned alive. A crowd of athiests stand around him, all wearing black robes and hoods.
RANDOM ATHIEST: Damn you, Christian! We hate you! We claim to be tolerant of all religions. But we really hate your's! That's because we athiests are hypocritical like that! Die, Christian!

Why must such hate towards eachother exist? Every atheist site i have seen is just as aggressive as these quotes from Christians, please do not feel bias, i am simply too lazy to go digging .



So i come here with an open heart and to ask why. Why must a religion that preaches love have so much hate, and why is it that atheists must hate just as much while trying to defend their right to love.

Why is it that time and again each side asks for their right to believe what they wish while trying to deny the other the same right?

And why is it that we cannot simply Coexist, we all share one thing regardless, we are human, share human emotions, and live life on this same planet. Please, both sides, answer me these questions without resorting to the "the bible said it" and "they will be damned" or "It's logic and science" or "why can't they see the truth" that either side periodically presents.

To preach and believe peace through war is simply hypocritical, so i ask please refrain from that in this thread, i will answer and converse with any who wish to speak to me, but i will outright ignore any aggressive, disdainful, or hateful behavior.

Edit: sorry but the "wash my mouth" censoring is HILARIOUS!

Personally I find these arguments epically hilarious. But childish? I agree. I suppose there will always be futile battles on both sides, a battle to change what each other thinks.
Unfortunately the people involved in these arguments are those who are least likely to change

It is unlikely either side will ever give up trying to change each other's beliefs.

Not saying i haven't been involved in one, but I tend to be a bit less forceful - unless people incredulously question what I believe. Which makes me ANGRY.

I personally have never seen an atheist site that advocated the sort of violence against Christians represented above.

Also, I have never seen a Christian site that advocated the violence against atheists represented above. What you have uncovered strikes me as an extremely rare display of hatred, and not the norm.

There's always going to be an occasional nutter who posts such hate. But this is not mainstream for either group. It's the fringe of the fringe.

as to your question about y a faith based on love must engender and contain so much hate. firstly I believe christianity will engender hate because of what is involved in being a christian, namely that we stop being selfish and immoral etc. or perhaps it is that we must realise in being/becoming a christian that we are as bad as the human race gets that is to say we are all on the same level playing field when it comes to God as the worst sinner and the greatest saint and there is something in the human psyche that thinks that this is unfair and humans hate unfairness unless it works in their favour.

I would say because it's the loud, wealthy, powerful Christians (not the majority) who insist that everyone who disagrees with them is not only wrong, but evil. It's the Dobsons, Phelps, Grahams, Haggards, Hovinds, Alamos, etc etc who are to blame for the ire against Christians. I think their pictures are shown next to the word, "hypocracy" in the dictionary.
