I interpret it as the sons of Seth were large or giants in that they had a high social stature. But perhaps the men could have also been physically large.

If they were allowed to remain in close proximity to Israel they would prove a snare or morally bad influence. That proved to be the case as the subsequent history shows when Israel failed to or refused to drive them out and fell into Baal worship and even into human sacrificing.

We as Christians believe the virgin birth, walking on water, multiplying a small amount of food into a large amount, raising the dead after the body began to stink, stopping the sun in the sky, parting a large body of water and on and on, but it is just not believable that a “fallen” angel could procreate with a human???? The truth here is that most just do not want to believe it. That is their choice. I once had a preacher friend tell me when discussing this topic “I can’t disprove anything you’ve said with scripture, but I choose not to believe it” , that sums it up quite nicely.

These 'sons of God' were present before He created mankind, at the founding of this earth, so how can they be sons of Seth?

Christ says all the sun, moon, stars will cease to shine and will fall to the earth.
They are a part of the host of heaven and do his will. They will fall to the earth when Christ returns.
It may be that they will transform into their angelic forms from being light shiners.

Notice that Matthew 24 here and Rev 6 are in agreement about an end time event at Christ returning regarding the sun, moon, stars.
