  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

He loved it?

He wouldn't want to be anywhere else?

Yep, I saw the interview, he was proud to be serving the best country on earth. To some that is sufficient. Especially at these times. I salute him.

I am sure if he was thinking selfishly he would rather be basking in the Bahama's, but he was proud to be there.

Saddam Hussein needs to be removed from power, but killing thousands of innocent people in an unneccessary war is not the way to do it. The UN inspections should have been allowed to continue.

oh please do show us where thousands of ppl are being killed even hussain hasnt said nothing about thousands being killed and he whould be the frist one to say it, and i will show you were our pows are bieng killed

Some guys like combat. Not the killing part, but the adrenaline rush. And the obvious satisfaction that comes from seeing a group of men work together as a well-trained unit and accomplishing a goal that's very difficult to achieve.

You ain't gonna get the same experience punching a time clock or working for Billy J. Gates, that's for sure.

Then we are enforcing a U.N. Resolution no? We have authority to do this?

No, we do not have the authority to do this our actions are lawless and destabalizing.  Lawless from an international perspective that is, on the national level I believe Bush has the authority.

I agree with everything except your last statement. The Coinstitutional authority for declaring war clearly falls with congress, and blank check resolutions authorizing force as Bush wills constitute an impermissable delegation of power. Of course the realities of modern war make such deliberations a security threat inthemselves, but we hear time and again from conservatives that the Constitution must be interpreted strictly rather than construed according to modern terms. As it stands, Congress has simply abandoned its responsibility here, but since they are the ones who would have to assert that responsibility no remedy will be forthcoming. …and we are currently without any real checks and balances on war powers. Other than that, I do agree with the rest of your assessment.

Cool?

Am I not being cool?

My freindly reminder immediately followed your post, but it was not directed to you, or anyone in particular.

Sorry for the miscommunication, Miyu. :sorry:

No problem...just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong. :)

Though right now it is snowing outside, and my goal is to stay warm rather than to be cool...:)

Snowing?

Wow! I forgot - it's still winter in some parts of the country.

Stay warm, then. :)
