Why teach creationism in public school science classes?

You want to talk reasoning?

How about this?

Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Don't tell me about 'reasoning' until you look in the mirror first.

You people are ... ironic.

Was there ever any man thus beaten out of season,
When in the why and the wherefore is neither rhyme nor reason?
- The Comedy Of Errors Act 2, Scene 2

Quoting the bible to non-believers has about the same effect as the above quote will have on you.

Then don't quote theories to me, either --

I didn't. You addressed me directly wanting to discuss reason and quoted the bible doing so. I was merely pointing out that's ineffective on non-believers. :)

That's not reasoning. That's just referencing a piece of scripture from the Bible.

Exodus 20:15 Thou shalt not steal.

How ineffective was that? or do you pick and choose?

The irony here being that you failed to spot in that passage that God isn't reasoning, he's asserting.

You're the one picking and choosing, my friend. Every line of scripture you post is just proof of that.

So go ahead. Post another one. :)

No -- I believe two things:

  1. Creationism should be taught as history, not science.
  2. Macroevolution should not be taught at all.

Wow! Funny that you dug this old thread up.... I barely even remember writing it! I actually started here under SplitRock and then couldn't log on for some reason and started a new account under "Split Rock." LOL!

Creationism has its place as history (of science and religion), since it was the default for many centuries before modern science... so, I agree with your first statement. However, macroevolution is used today by vast majority of biologists. Why shouldn't it be taught in biology class? Science is what scientists do.

It's interesting reading the original discussion in this thread, such a different swathe of posters. I wonder what they're doing nowadays...

Anyway, usual answer: Creationism shouldn't be taught as science because it's not science.

Correct -- creationism should be taught as history.

It's historic, but not history. That is, the biblical creation story was written many years ago, but has no historical relevance outside of being a component of ancient religious beliefs.
