In my experience the only people who thought virgins should be mocked are the ones who think it makes them cool to have already done it
That is true. I have seen that myself.

I just believe in fair game. If there are absolutist moral believers out there(of any train of thought) willing to condemn me for making love to the women I have felt love for before marriage(whether it be real or make believe is irrelevant because at the time I was convinced), then it is only fair to scrutinize virgins or even those that are celibate for the things that are worth scrutinizing them about.

I wouldnt want people scruitinizing my decisions in the past or my decisions now, so I would not direct at other people regardless of their need to scrutinize me. Except immediate family, my sister needs a slap.

That's the way I am. If people leave me alone about my sex life, be a virgin all one wants to. Be celibate all one wants to. I hope it is good for them.

The minute criticism comes about my life to things they have the inability to prove themselves right or wrong, I retaliate if I feel like I should.

Perhaps, perhaps not. The Bible's silence on the matter does not mean he was. We can't make any assumptions one way or the other.
I beg to differ, if he had sex outside of marriage he would have sinned, and on the cross you would say he would certainly said something to his wife had he had one.

But the matter of Jesus being married is again something Scripture is silent on...

Yep, I agree. From Biblical accounts we can conclude that Jesus never married and never sinned. The Bible identifies sex ouside of marriage as sin, so Jesus was a virgin.

Sometimes silence speaks just as loud, if not louder, than words. If the Bible never says that Jesus was married or even comes close to inferring it, it's pretty safe to say that he wasn't. If he was, that would be pretty significant and would almost undoubtedly be mentioned.

Which brings about an interesting thought about the significance of him not ever marrying...

I am not one of those who say the Christ was wed to Mary Magdalene or anyone else, but the Bible does not say if he was married or not. The absence of evidence is simply not sufficient to reach an absolute conclusion. The statement "we have no reason to be believe he was" is compltely reasonable, but that is different from the absolute "Jesus was a virgin and never married", which cannot be proven in the text.

I think people don't like what they do not understand. People want to fit in, belong, be inclusive, if someone else does things differently than the norm, it can make other people feel awkward and uncomfortable. Just like a bunch of people drinking don't feel as comfortable when someone around them doesn't drink. Or when a group of people who are similar in lifestyles or interests are confronted with an outsider who they have little in common with, it feels like an intrusion and thus makes them uncomfortable. People fear what they do not understand. That's where the root of a lot of predjudices come from, including racisim.

Rather than embracing people's differences and learning to view things/people differently, people turn against them and belittle as to feel better about themselves and lower the level of discomfort they may be feeling. I also think it has to do with insecurity. The more secure a person is in themselves and what they are or are not doing, the more comfortable they will be accepting different people and circumstances. People tend to feel challenged in their own viewpoints by those that are different more so when they haven't fully accepted or come to terms with what they believe themselves and why.

Virginity is mocked by society in general because htey view it as a restriction to their other wise hedonistic lifestyle. Society doesn't want anything to keep them from 'having fun'. They simply don't realise how wonderful they life would be if they did abstain... *sighs*

I think thats a pretty big generalisation. Its not always about fun, and you cant lump all non abstinent people into one big group. (not sure on spelling)

Because opposition to society makes people uncomfortable.

The majority of society does not see virginity as the natural result of obeying God's commandments. They see it as a condition which they belive every person wants to be rid of.

I will say however that I don't like the moral superiority many Christians often try to prescribe to virginity.

To me virginity is the natural result of someone obeying God's commandment not to have pre-marital sex. However that is all it is. When one turns to Christ all their sins are forgiven, so therefore being a virgin Christian is no different from someone who had an extensive sexual history and then turned to Christ.

So this whole idea and talk of "purity" Our purity is in Christ, not in our sexual behavor or lack thereof. The obedience itself is a good thing, don't get me wrong. However the obedience is not the source of one's purity unless one trusts in the law to save them.
