Why is the media fearmongering?

Covid, covid. I get it. It's been rapidly spreading and it's dangerous. But why are all the major network news outlets carrying over 90% of their airtime based on it? This has been going on for weeks now. And it seems like they won't cover anything else but covid.

Probably because infection rates are going up at alarming rates in much of the country as we head into a time of year when people will be particularly susceptible to catching and transmitting the virus (due to cooler weather, family gatherings, etc).

It used to be terrorists but now they have discovered a new enemy, it is invisible so they can tell lots of lies about it and make people scared of one another.

This whole Covid scare is just that, scaremongering so they can rob you of your freedoms, and don't think a vaccine will stop this. It will be the new normal to be scared of each other, easier to control people when they are scared of each other.

It wasn't too long ago people around here (middle of nowhere Virginia) were saying as soon as the election happened the virus would be gone. The unspoken assumption being it was all wholly political. Of course, that narrative has changed, as narratives do.

Look how quickly South Korea got it under control. The people worked together as a unit. We, on the other hand, fuss about simple acts of health awareness and the virus exploded. Is it fear mongering or is it trying to get people on the same page for the common good. I see it as the later. What do I know?

In S. Korea if you are suspected to have C19 and refuse to be tested they can send you to prison for a year and fine you $10,000. If they did that in the US I don't think it would go over very well at all.

Wearing a mask is such an insignificant act when it comes to saving a life. An $85 fine is a small price to pay if it will save a life. In Virginia we have had 3,785 deaths. South Korea has had 492. How much is one life worth?
