  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There's a painful story behind most suicides. I knew a man who suffered great pain for many years, who finally took his own life. I felt relieved for him. He was wonderful, loving person. God will judge evil, not weakness.

Not if they go to hell.

Can you evaluate reality on the other side of the coin? Will it be better or worse?

Sorry it took so long to respond. But no I couldn't evaluate it. That is a good question.

To address this part of the OP, sometimes, a move to a better area with mass transit can change ones view point or perspective. Otherwise, feeling stagnant can contribute greatly to ones depression and despair.

A fresh start can profoundly change ones quality of life.

Transportation can add a richer quality to ones life, as one can get to various support groups and can participate in life through more opportunities to work or to volunteer, even be mentored.

When one feels needed and wanted, and has a sense of purpose, life is so much better.

Thank you very much.

Jesse your life is worthwhile, brother in Christ.

I love you and Jesus loves you and God made you!

hang in there, read gods word, study scripture, watch a youtube video, send pms, ask for prayer

:groupray:

Thank you so much!!!

You have always showed kindness to me.

But I wasn't contemplating suicide. I do not want to test God. But still thank you for your words. God bless you.

Suicide is the ultimate act of self-worship.
As long as you are alive you have hope, once you end your life hope is gone.
Man will tell people that there is no hope of recovery or living without pain.
God is a pain-taker.

Nobody should commit suicide, because with God there is always hope. Even if He doesn't take the pain away, some people won't let Him, He gives the strength to endure the pain.

Thank you

You gave me things to think about. God bless

I am sorry Jessie but I misread your post. [That will teach me to put the cart before the horse] :)
You have good advice above so I will just say God bless and I am relieved that you were not speaking of you.

Yeah, that's OK. Thank you so much for your words though. God bless you.

This is false. Dying might be unavoidable (try avoiding dying for, let's say, 200 years) ...
But willingly murdering ones own self or anyone else is a deadly sin.

Willingly dying is not the same as suicide, btw. Yahweh knows the inner thoughts of the heart, and all the motives involved. He Judges Rightly.

Yeah, I know you are right. God is always right in his judgments. He never judges falsely.

I don't know for sure if it were true or not but it was reported that when one of the buildings was collapsing during 911 a person actually slid down the building and survived. Person jumping out of windows during that tragic day may not have been attempting to commit suicide, maybe faced with the horrible circumstance they were facing, that was what they felt was their best alternative and who knows, maybe by some miracle they could have survived. If you believe in God's word, anything is possible. That's where faith comes in. As believers, we should never give up as there's always hope.

That is a good point.

I disagree with suicide because it's unproductive. It robs a suffering person of any opportunity for the pain to ease and life to get better. While it's an automatic end to suffering, it's of no value because the person's not around to experience the relief that comes from it.

That is true.

What is the value in a human life? The person is made in God's image. Not a single soul alive needs to "do" anything to be "worth" anything. I'm sorry to be blunt, but that is a horrible worldview.

Who can be loved? God loves everyone, including the most broken-down people. Read the Gospel of Luke. The upside-down kingdom of God. So even if the person has nothing to "offer." They are loved by God. And they can be loved by God's people.

What of their tremendous pain and suffering? This is a terrible trial. But God is sovereign. He doesn't just "allow" it. He ordains it. Why? We don't know. One reason that comes to mind is so that the lost will see His church ministering to the hurt, sick, and broken, and see this compassion that the Holy Spirit ministers to others through us. They will see us sitting by their side while they writhe, or slump, or cry, or just wait. To the best of our abilities, we will not leave them. We will not stop loving them. And we are just fallible servants of God. Imagine God, in His grandeur, how much more He will stay with and love someone who is suffering.

I was moved yesterday watching a video of a boy with a severe neurological impairment, who is bound to a wheelchair, cannot talk, walk, or even wave. He can open his eyes, and almost smile. What is the point of his life? He goes from his wheelchair to his bed, he sits in bed and gets changed by someone. He can't "do" anything or "offer" anyone anything, right?

Wrong. The answer is love. Even if he lacks the cognitive ability to initiate love (which I doubt), the people around him can. Love is acts of service and self-sacrifice. Think of his mother, who does everything for him. She gets up in the middle of the night to change him, intubate him, move his position. 24/7 she cares for him. What if the child were to have the ability to decide to end his life? She would be devastated. Why? Because of all the things he could've "done?" No. Because she loves him.

It's love, guys. Love. Jesus said it, so it's gotta be true.

34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13, NIV)

Thank you

And you are right. Anyone would be devastated to lose a child, even if their child was disabled and did not make much of a difference in this life.

All people experience pain. And it's what causes your heart to beat, lungs to breath, and reminds you to eat. If you take morphine, it dulls the pain. If you take enough to stop all pain, your breathing stops. Pain is part of life.

I know. It kind of blows though.

Because there are other people who might have needed his help before they died as well. Wouldn't that be a better way to end your life? To die trying to save someone else?

For example, my brother killed himself. There are thousands of people he could have helped in the following years. So his girlfriend gave him a bad day and he was in pain. Nope. Bad decision.

I am so sorry for your brother.

I don't want to be dogmatic about it, but I would say there's definitely a possibility that hell might be in the offing, therefore I wouldn't take a chance with it because killing is a sin. No one has a right to take another's life or to kill anyone, including themselves with the exceptions of the military and law enforcement I believe.

I wouldn't want to take a chance with it either.

Glad to see a Christian demonstrating understanding regarding those who so tragically take their life.
Too many people are only too willing to criticise someone who commits suicide when they have no idea why that person found themselves in such a dark place and don't even try to understand why or how it all came about.

Following Luther, we don't necessarily believe people that commit suicide go to hell but we do not view it generally as a good thing to take human life.

For every human that suffers, Christ suffers with them. If that is not good enough, then we can trust that God is merciful.

I also agree people who died in the Twin Towers by jumping were not responsible for their deaths. They were scared and scared people do things that might seem irrational to us looking at it from our own perspective.
