Leviticus differentiates birds/fowl (in which it includes bats) from insects. Creeping upon all fours referred to flying insects like locusts. Bats were classified as fowl/bird.

Like here, fowl/birds which creep on all four?

Lev 11:20 All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you.

Bats are biologically unrelated to birds. So to claim they are birds through any taxonomic system, would make as much sense as calling a tiger a bird.

I don't get why it's so difficult to just accept, without the aid of modern science, to an ancient culture, bats were flying things just like birds, therefore they assumed them to be the same type of creature.

It's wrong, but who cares? What on earth does that change about God's revelation?

Taksis = order, rank

Onoma = name

Nomos = rule, law

(not sure which the etymology is - from onoma or nomos)

Taxonomy needn't be arranged by our own preconceptions to be valid; that's the point.

The Scriptures seem to reflect an ordering system similar to Aristotle; it just reflects a different criteria.

(Taxonomy by environ is more practical for people, but is one of many ways to arrange things - just depends on the purpose of the ordering system.)

I understand under water life is classified by fins or without fins, but fowl (or birds) dont seem to be classified by feathers but by flying and creeping and going on all fours, where most birds I know of fly and go on two (if they must) where bats fly and go on all four

Heres something interesting, speaks of waters bring forth what appears to be the fowl then speaks of out of the ground the forming of the fowl, am I catching this correctly?

Gen 1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

Gen 1:2 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

Gen 2:19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that [was] the name thereof.

Theres the problem, Whatever Adam called them that was his name, so God cant be blamed for the bat thing:p^_^

Yeah, I just think its cute God brought them to Adam to see what he would call them and "whatever" Adam named them "that" was the name thereof. Sorta adorable if you ask me, "here son, look what I made, now what would you call this thing over here"? ^_^

I'll work around ya lol

I can hear second Adam naming the upright beasts, "ye snakes ye brood of vipers"! :p

Seems to be a patern lol
