Thats easy to explain, it is always more blessed to follow the Bible than man. God will bless obedience. Here is a verse for pondering.

Pro 23:13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.
Pro 23:14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.

I can use one verse to justify abuse, but I won't.* "Correction" can be a number of things, hand spankings, sending a child to their room. Limits are imporant to set on children, and grown ups.

*parent who has spanked her children.

so are you saying that God said that beating with a rod is abuse? Do you listen to modern psychologists and the world rather than the Word of God?

The Word of God has cultural connotations as well. Do you realize men were allowed to beat their wives and owned their families?

What sort of "rod" are you referring to? A wooden spoon, yard stick?

In ancient biblical times men owned both their wives...

A woman, in biblical times, was considered to be the property first of her father and after marriage of her husband.

In biblical times, acts of sexual assault and abuse against women were of concern to the degree that they violated male property rights. The Bible delineated the marriage relationship by calling the husband ba'al which implies both ownership and lordship (Ex. 21:28). Thus, for example,if a wife is physically harmed by someone, compensation is paid to her husband. The husband is not only the owner of his wife, he is also the owner of her pregnancy (Ex. 21:22). If a man's "property rights" are violated, he is entitled to compensation.

Some decisors declare it unlawful, while others justify it under certain circumstances. Gratuitous abuse, striking a wife without a reason, is forbidden by all. However, the attitude of rabbinic sources toward perceived "bad wives" is ambivalent, and wife beating is occasionally sanctioned if it is for the purpose of chastisement or education.

no but it is the best way, why because God says so

I really understand spanking for a little one for a serious infraction, running in the road etc. but for something, like not putting away something, etc. else I really don't see the purpose.

BTW what sort of stick are your proposing, a tree branch, spoon, yard stick?

spankings...my folks preferred using a leather belt. I've never used a belt on my boys. mrs menno uses the wooden spoon on occaison, and I've spanked with bare hand on bare bottom, but not often.

No rods at our house...though these boys could've used a few more spankings...come to think about it I could've used a few more too.

As a father I learn so much about the nature of the Christian relationship with God the Father through my parenting. Many things I tell my sons seem somehow to get tossed back at me by the Holy Spirit...

My first-grade teacher had a tennis racket for spanking. She had named it "Henrietta." (I went to a school called "Henry Heights Elementary.") I never got hit with it (parents had to give permission for spanking.) There was, however, a boy, pretty much my rival, who got spanked ALL the time. He misbehaved obviously, but since I wasn't punished in another way, obviously I was doing something right!
