  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why I Don't Believe In Atheism's Creation Myth

But we're in agreement that many others have died claiming that their religion is the truth, correct? Therefore, we must also agree that the death of adherents in the name of their faith is not a sign of any particular religion being real.

And I'm sure He does.
Yet, he doesn't use that knowledge and lets us go to hell, according to you.

I have no idea. He designed us and that is the way He chose to do it. I'll ask Him when I get there.
Then you accept this based on the Bible, I'm assuming?

comme ci comme ca
We have the same phrase in Spanish and you did not use it properly unless your point was to follow up your baseless assertion with a non sequitur.

It's as plain as the nose on your face.
How so?

Quite the non-sequitur.

I attempted to make two points with my post:

1) there have been many deities purported to have been resurrected. your posts made me think that you believe Christianity is unique in this aspect.

2) you claim that since the apostles died such horrific deaths (as claimed by tradition), they must have been on to something. who would die for a lie? well, the same thing happened to Joseph Smith. he died for his beliefs. who would die for a lie?

Lots of people don't take responsibility for their actions.
So you agree religion and god fail at holding people accountable for their actions? I tend to hear the opposite argued by Christians all the time.

I agree that religion, since it is man made, fails at holding people accountable. God does hold everyone accountable.

How. you just need to believe in him and accept Jesus. Then you get a "get out of hell" free card.

I could rape little children and have sex with their optical cavities after i kill them. When I'm old and dying I repent. And believe me i mean it. I dont want to go to hell after all.

Where exactly is the accountability?

Ahhh but where do us humans get these qualities?
This is known as altruistic reciprocity. It is a byproduct of species evolution. It is well documented and understood at this point.

The fact is, humans are capable of profound acts of compassion, as well as unspeakable acts of violence. It is the reason we feel compassion for those in a train wreck, and the same reason we can't help but look as we drive by.

Trying to speak from a purely evolutionistic and sans God viewpoint; I have to say that that is all well and good, but when society tries to legislate 'profound acts of compassion', then I believe something is wrong here.

What exactly is an 'unspeakable act of violence', when nature is full of such acts?

How many deaths occurred just outside of my front door this past week? hundreds? thousands?

Two glorified apes are bullied into going feral, they go inside of a cage and attack their own species -- is this an 'unspeakable act of violence'?

A comet strikes the earth and kills thousands of glorified apes, but tens of thousands of beetles; who should morn for whom?

Why is that wrong?

Are you saying there aren't horrible acts of violence?

Heard that from higher academia, did you? or was it from another source?
It doesent really matter what the brand is. So the question is who would die for a lie? Lots of people. Christians for Christianity, Muslims for Islam.

Why then is this your 3rd post on it?

According to psychologists, not one person in history has ever died for what he knew to be a lie.

No one.

evidence?

And stop playing word games. People die for a lies all the time. Sometimes to make others believe in that lie. It happens all the time in war. And other times it is simply that they are deceived and dont know its a lie.

Yes, but the difference is that CMBR has been proven to exist, its observable. You have simply asserted that your sixth sense exists and that it is dependant on christianity. You still haven't provided any evidence for it.

I didn't say that he should use his divine powers to automagically change our minds. I said that he'd know what would convince us.
The lake of fire will convince some people when they begin to feel the heat.
