Absolutely. That is one of the (to me) great things about Christianity; in essentials we are to stand firm that which is a matter of opinion we are to let flow around us. Jesus Christ was born, died and resurrected. We accept that and are Christian. Everything else is window dressing. I expect there will be dissention on this too.So, you say it is even worse than torture. So, it seems that there is much confusion about the nature of Hell among believers.
So, if there is an alternative explanation, I should simply not accept it. Because if I do, it is my fault and into the good old Lake of Fire I go... correct?Look around you. I didn't quote the scripture as proof, read and try to understand what its saying. Every thing you see is proof. Now you can make up your mind to ignore the proof or come up with alternate reasons for everything you see, I can't help you there.
I thought I was without God already... it doesn't seem like torture or worse than torture... So why does a place absent of God look like a Lake of Fire? Shouldn't just be dark and empty?Hell is not there to torture, its a place absent of God. The consequence of being without God is torture.
Well, you seem to ba a very reasonable type. I have no problem with religion in general, just when people try to impose their religious beliefs on others... you don't appear to be like that. Thanks for your honest answers.Absolutely. You'd be surprised. How many others have told me that I am 1) Bigoted 2) Violent 3) Greedy because I am a right wing Christian. Thanks for reading what I had to say.Well, you seem to ba a very reasonable type. How do you cope with the awesome privilege of having been given your sixth sense, Doveaman? Do you ever find yourself thinking "Why me? Why did God choose me? What is it about me that is different?" Do such questions keep you awake at night? Perhaps God has a special plan for you, Dove. A mission for you and you alone. That's a very good question, one that I often ask myself as well. I think it has to do with God knowing who will wisely use the sixth sense when given and who will reject it if given:

There is an absolute truth and there are lies.
Don't switch the goal posts. You asked "Why would they be willing to suffer so much for a lie?" There have been countless cults and religions who's adherents have suffered pain and death. Is martyrdom alone enough reason to believe one religion over another? If not, then you can stop mentioning the people who have suffered for Christianity as it's irrelevant to this conversation.Of course not. No cults or religions have had the Son of God killed and then resurrected.
Again, why aren't you Muslim?I might ask you the same question. You seem intent on tearing down Christianity.
I didn't say that he should use his divine powers to automagically change our minds. I said that he'd know what would convince us.Sort of blows a hole in our God given free choice.
Why must we have faith in your deity instead of relying on our physical senses? Then it wouldn't be faith would it?
You're correct. It's your lack of evidence that makes them baseless.Your inability to understand doesn't make them baseless.
How?Oh He does.
Of course not. No cults or religions have had the Son of God killed and then resurrected.
Really? There is an absolute truth and there are lies.
Let me try it this way. They were given a choice of renouncing Jesus resurrection. They insisted that He was alive and they'd seen Him and spoken to Him. They chose to die for what they knew to be true.Don't switch the goal posts. You asked "Why would they be willing to suffer so much for a lie?" Well, two reasons, 1) that path doesn't lead to salvation 2) I'm a Christian.Again, why aren't you Muslim?
And I'm sure He does.I didn't say that he should use his divine powers to automagically change our minds. I said that he'd know what would convince us.
I have no idea. He designed us and that is the way He chose to do it. I'll ask Him when I get there. Why must we have faith in your deity instead of relying on our physical senses?
comme ci comme caYou're correct. It's your lack of evidence that makes them baseless.
It's as plain as the nose on your face. How?
Quite the non-sequitur.Life-death-rebirth deity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
If you use the whole "they died horrible deaths so it MUST be true!" angle, then Joseph Smith must have been right too.
You believe that path leads to salvation. Just like a mulims believes the islam leads to salvation. Just one belief against another.Well, two reasons, 1) that path doesn't lead to salvation
But then again, many believers of other cults or religions faced that choice and choose to die for their faith. So that makes their religion true too?Let me try it this way. They were given a choice of renouncing Jesus resurrection. They insisted that He was alive and they'd seen Him and spoken to Him. They chose to die for what they knew to be true.
Beats me. It would seem dying for your faith and dying for a fact are widely different. But then again, many believers of other cults or religions faced that choice and choose to die for their faith. So that makes their religion true too?
Actually they don't believe they know that they are forgiven. They do good things and hope that is enough. So their path doesn't necessarily lead to salvation. You believe that path leads to salvation. Just like a mulims believes the islam leads to salvation. Just one belief against another.

I'm sure the one who dies for faith says the same thing. Only they believe they are dieing for something that is true and everyone else is dying for faith.Beats me. It would seem dying for your faith and dying for a fact are widely different.
