  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As I read your post about why you are no longer a Christian, I have to ask myself, what do any of your points have to do with your faith and your personal walk with God? Personally, going to church or even belonging to a church or denomination has absolutely nothing to do with your personal relationship to God. I agree with many of your points about the political ruminations of the churches today. I don't agree with your stance against immigration. We are all descendants of immigrants in Canada and the USA at one point or another. (Just ask any First Nation Indian). I don't see what any of this has to do with your belief in God or becoming an Athiest. As a Christian, you either believe in the Divinity of God or you don't. It comes down to that simple bit of faith. Read your bible and pray daily, that is where your strength will come from, not from belonging to any one church. Just saying.

Did you read the text of the sermon? It's a joke.

Yes, I heard about that sermon a long time ago. No, I don't agree with it, neither do most Episcopalians I know. Katherine Jefferts-Schori has become a controversial figure for Episcopalians, even liberal ones. Nobody has to listen to her opinions, the Episcopal Church doesn't have a Metropolitan or Pope.

Having said that, I'd never accuse Bishop Schori of being an atheist.

I still think you are focused on the wrong things, the institutions, the fallible human beings and not the Faith. A Christians faith is ultimate about receiving and acknowledging the grace that God gives, even in the Episcopal Church, the bishops, priests, and ministers just do God's work, it is not dependent on whether or not they have a perfect theology.

I think he has a problem with illegal immigration. That is awarding criminals and not considering those who came to this country going through the process legally.

Thank you. I will check out American Family radio. I've never heard of it. I am glad there are people like you out there. You do give me some hope.

You are very welcome. We have to remember who the enemy is. Satan is very real, reeking havoc with our minds. He wants us to give up the fight and surrender. I say, no way! Bring it on! Greater is in me than he who is in the world. I live in TN. AFR is around 90 FM. It is talk radio You will hear Sandy Rios, Bryan Fisher, and so many others. They get into the weeds of politics but mostly faith in the Lord and opening our eyes to what is really going on. You will hear things that you do not hear from the media. This is truth. It is on 24 hours a day 7 days a week. They rely on donations as far as support. In fact next week is their shareathon so don't be turned off by that. They only do this twice a year. Once you know what the battles are, you will be a better warrior. We are more than conquerors through Christ. Think of yourself as being in God's army fighting for righteousness. That is the way I think of it.

I took Kristen.NewCreation's post to mean that this discussion doesn't belong here so I started a new thread under the Philosophy section with the same title as this thread. I'm adding my replies to that thread.

Look forward to seeing them there. I did the same thing when I first joined this forum. Many do.
