Why do so many people not follow this commandment? The majority worship and pray on Sundays, which would be the first day of the week.

It is just a tradition to make Sunday the day of rest, started IIRC in the early church.
You think god named the days and gave them their order?Hmmm
Our Saturday is the Sabbath.
Our Sunday is the first day of the week, as the Lord said.
I don't see a conflict.
I would prefer to take BOTH days off from doing anything!
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

It's the question at the forefront of philosophical lectures across the nation - "What day is the beginning of the week?"!Not really a philosophy question.
Sunday is the first day of the week for all those who use the calender Julius Caesar created. If I were christian I would think if you wanna to keep sunday holy, then you should adopt a new calender that has Sunday as the sabbath, and not Saturday. It's the question at the forefront of philosophical lectures across the nation - "What day is the beginning of the week?"!
One could argue that the Sabbath hasn't changed: one day, and each seventh day thereafter, is the Sabbath. If the Julian Calendar redefines the week to make the Sabbath the beginning, rather than the end, of the week, then so be it.Sunday is the first day of the week for all those who use the calender Julius Caesar created. Yeah but it doesn't. Maybe Christians can fight to do it! But until they do, maybe they should change their day of worship to reflect their God's wishes rather than "cherry pick" which commandments they choose to followOne could argue that the Sabbath hasn't changed: one day, and each seventh day thereafter, is the Sabbath. The guy who created the calender we choose to follow decided it was the first; named after the SunHow is Sunday the "first day of the week"?![]()

Because... it is. Saturday and Sunday form the weekend - the two ends of the week. The Sabbath is on a Saturday because God rested on the last day of the week, while the Christian day of rest is on a Sunday because Jesus rose on a Sunday. How is Sunday the "first day of the week"?![]()
It's right there in their names:If you say so.

I'm aware of that, but I reject that particular standardNot according to many calendars. In the Swedish calendar, Sunday isn't the beginning of the week, Monday is.
And this conforms with International Organization for Standards ISO 8601, in which Monday is the first day of the week.
I'm an atheist. Is your religion ISO compliant?
I'm not familiar with what they do in Swedan, but in the USA we observe the Julian calender. Maybe the Christians in Swedan have it right and those in America should either adopt the Swedish calender or change their worship days; what do you think? Not according to many calendars.
