Why does God continually disappoint me by giving me promises that never come to pass?

The primary Blessing that all Holy men and women of the Old Testament received was the Blessing of a Circumcised heart. This is the Blessing that we clearly see in Genesis 17, where physical circumcision is instituted. Some say that the Blessing and Promise made to Abraham and his descendants is the Land of Milk and Honey. Yet Abraham never got a single inch of it. Why? Abraham was looking forward to a Heavenly Kingdom, not an earthly kingdom.

If a person hasn't received the Blessing of a Circumcised heart, they won't receive any other Blessings or Promises. There is nothing you need to understand more than the doctrine of Circumcision. If you choose to study this teaching, life will begin to make more sense. The Bible will mysteriously awaken for you and you will understand it like you may have always hoped. But I am warning you, that if you study this teaching, you will be exposed to the true Gospel, Saving Plan of Christ. If you walk away from Him after that, I'm not sure that a person gets a second chance.
What does it mean to have a circumcised heart? Yeah I think the Holy Spirit might've already left me, so perhaps I am already lost and wandering about in the darkness. Maybe that's why my life is the way it is.

Read Colossians 2:9-15. If a person's heart has been Circumcised, they will identify with this set of verses.

A Circumcised heart is one that has had the Sinful Nature cut away and permanently removed. God is clever in hiding His Gospel Saving Plan behind the word circumcision, but He did it. The removal of the Sinful is just as permanent as is physical circumcision . . . for what man would want to return to having foreskin? And when the Sinful Nature is removed and that layer of controlling evil is stripped out of our lives, the way we feel is unbelievable. It is said that Jesus sets us free . . . you've heard it. But we never talk about what we have truly been set free from . . . the Sinful Nature. For the Jews, they have been set free of the Sinful Nature AND the Law of Moses. But Gentiles, when they "turn" to Christ, they are separated from the evil Power of the Devil. When that Sinful Nature is removed, so too is the Power of the Devil. Once Jesus separates a person from the Curse of the Lord, the Devil loses his Effectual Power in our lives.

You can now probably see why it is important that the "church" begin teaching this doctrine. Another problem with the "church" is that it does not teach about our Spiritual malady. We rarely ever hear any pastor preach on the Curse of the Lord. Why would they NOT do that? How can we preach the Effect of Christ if we don't preach about His Work? How can pastors preach about the Work of Christ if they don't teach about His Purpose? How can pastors preach about the Purpose of Christ if they never talk about what haunts us?

So, my friend, and I am just being as compassionately honest with you as I possibly can . . . but the relationship that you think you have with God . . . you don't have that relationship and I don't think you ever have. You feel abandoned, but that's because you have always been abandoned. Your heart has not been Circumcised by Christ as of yet, meaning that you do not YET belong to Him. This means that the Promises and Blessings that you wrote of, well . . . they have yet to be given because you are not YET His child. You are not yet the Lord's child because you have yet to hear the actual Gospel. We can't respond to the Gospel unless we hear it. So don't be worried that the Spirit has left you . . . don't worry about blasphemy. Don't worry about past sins . . . those things won't help you. Instead, you need to look at yourself and say, "Ahhhh . . . now I understand why I couldn't obey! It was an evil Power within me causing me to do the things I didn't want to do. The things I wanted to do, I couldn't do them . . . because of that Power within me. I was being used by the Devil to do his evil will. But I want God to purchase me with the Blood of Christ. I believe in Jesus for the redemption of all my sins. And I also believe in the Power that raised Jesus from the Dead. That Power is God. Lord, Powerful God, please Circumcise my heart and release me from the captivity of the Devil. Please Purify me of my Sinful Nature and replace it with your Divine Nature so that I can finally obey. Please set me free from this miserable life of selfish pleasure and sin. Please bring me close to you to do your will as you did with Jonah. Even if I fight and scream, do not give up on me. Please hold me close and never let me go! I am finally willing to do anything that you want me to do; I am finally willing to go anywhere that you desire I go. I am your slave; I belong to you. In the name of your Powerful, Almighty Son . . . Jesus."

Thanks for the most compassionate response in this entire thread...
I appreciate that. I told you what I would have needed to hear if I were currently having those thoughts, and believe me, those thoughs have been recent. The truth must be spoken in love, Ephesians 4:15, in a spirit of compassion. Especially if someone has mental health issues (in my case I have PTSD) we need to tread carefully and avoid triggers if we can.

I was once in a similar state of mind after something bad happened, and I had a face to face conversation with a deacon at church. He presented Scripture. He quoted God's words to Job, that even though Job had not sinned and didn't deserve any of this, he really knows very little and God knows so much more. He directed me to 1 Thessalonians 5:18, to give thanks in all circumstances, not just pleasant ones. He told the story of Corrie ten Boom, which I had heard before, but it was good to hear again. During their imprisonment in a Nazi concentration camp, following that very same Scripture, her sister Betsy advised her to even give thanks for the fleas that infested their bunks. That sounded ridiculous, but her sister was right. Because of the fleas, the guards stayed away and left them alone. They had the freedom to study their Bible, which would have been confiscated if the guards had wanted to come anywhere near the place.

All of this, he said in a gentle, even tone of voice with a sympathetic facial expression. Later in the conversation he said something like, "and that's why I'm being tough on you," but I really didn't think he was. He was telling me hard truths, but he was saying them gently. I think that sets a good example.

Then what am I supposed to do??? I've prayed over and over to God/Jesus, and you're saying that it was all for nothing? Plus I went to church innumerable times and went through Baptism and Confirmation and Confession, and you are saying it was all for nothing....???

These are legit points and questions. I hate to tell you this, but we're all facing a system that may very well be completely corrupt. Specifically, I am talking about nearly every Jesus-claiming system there is. As said, we are all facing this problem. We should all be concerned about what it is that we believe and why we believe each idea. The Bible is clear that there is only one Gospel, but what is that? Who even talks about it? Who identifies it? What classes are there in "churches" that even teach what the "Gospel" actually is? What church requires a person to take this class before they are allowed to become members?

Do you see my point? What if we haven't been taught the truth? Think about it: We don't get together and practice sharing the Gospel with each other. "Christians" aren't interested in practicing that "stuff."

So yes, when a person is involved in a cult, or an organization that shares many of the same features, all of the efforts would technically be "for nothing." And if that is true, then I have given you the opportunity to take my hand so that I can help you out of the pit. You have been given a chance to have the Veil pulled away so that you can finally respond the way you would like. But based upon your behavior, which is behavior that is consistently produced because of a Sinful Nature, it seems evident that you remain under that Adamic Curse, as do MOST people, including MOST who think they're genuine believers. The difference between you and most believers is that you realize the predicament that you're in, yet there are some who may have responded to you yet are living a more sinful life than you yourself. You, however, are waking up and recognizing your malady, the very struggle that Jesus left His Throne to come to Earth and help us with this problem.

Look . . . the Gospel Saving Plan revolves around the main ideas. They are:

1) The Purpose of Christ
2) The Work of Christ
3) The Effect of Christ

If we can't talk about these main ideas, then we don't really understand the actual Saving Gospel of Jesus Christ.

What is the Purpose of Christ? To Redeem people of their sins and be the Holy Path to follow that leads us into a Right relationship with the Father.

For there to be a Purpose to Christ, there must also be actions involved. This brings us to the Work of Christ. In other words, what does Jesus do to get us to the point where we are made Right with the Father? Jesus has four primary Works. They are:

1) Circumcises the heart of all "stone," "hardness," "corruption," etc. This is the cutting away of the Sinful Nature. It is also known as being released from the captivity of the Devil. Col 2:9-15 states that this act of Christ takes us from Spiritual death to Spiritual Life. That seems critical to have been taught.
2) Jesus grants the ability to "Turn" and Repent. This choice which becomes an action, is an intellectual tool that we are given and exercise. Unless Repentance is granted, we will say that we have Repented, yet the habitual structure of our sin proves that we have not.
3) Jesus sends the gift of the Holy Spirit as an Effectual lead and guide. With the Holy Spirit Indwelling His Elect, those Children of the Lord will be caused to change, for we will learn to reflect the Glory of God more and more . . . and this is beyond our control.
4) Jesus's Life, death, and Holy Resurrection are vital, as believing in Jesus and the Power that raised Him from the dead is necessary for Salvation. The Faith we have been given through Circumcision of heart, Repentance, and the Effectual Holy Spirit, these three miracles bring any person who has received them, a changed life. Those who have received these four Works of Christ cannot remain the same. They are set free, and will thus begin changing and Transforming.

Why don't you hear people ranting and raving over how God has changed them? When people only see each other at church on Sunday mornings, why don't they rant and rave about how the Lord is changing them beyond their own Power? Why aren't we talking about these miracles that we all read about in the Bible? It is because most people have not undergone this Spiritual Work that I have outlined above. How do we know? Easy . . . there is a Holy Effect to the Work of Christ.

The fact that a person is guaranteed to change by the Power of God, yet very few ever improve in their sinful lives, tells at least me that the "church" has a major problem. Right, when you and I attend church, the likelihood of you standing next to genuine Christians is slight at best. But again, this is not necessarily their fault, nor is it necessarily the fault of the pastors? Most of us believe that we're all in the right faith system. Can we help what we believe? There is no coolaide to drink if we want to question our faith. We aren't threatened with death should we leave, yet we still blindly believe what our ears receive. Well . . . this has been happening for centuries, meaning that our beliefs are being handed down to us. Are we really studying the Bible upon our own effort, to listen to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to teach us the Story of God?

Maybe it is the evidence of you waking up to your sinful condition that places you well ahead of nearly everyone around you. Maybe it is you who is currently on a higher mountain than most of those around you, for your view seems to be from a bit of a higher plane.

I just live my life daily as simply as possible and focus on the Lord’s commandments. Obviously I don’t know your hardships and it is best not to pry. It is only my intent to try to give basic &, hopefully, useful advice.

As an able bodied individual in a basic warehouse job, I realize I have much to be thankful for. I am able to give blood, give alms, pray for myself & my neighbor all the while remembering my sinful shortcomings ( see Romans 3:23, Philippians 2:12-13, Ephesians 2:8-10, John 14:15-18, Romans 13:8-10 etc,).

There are many basic things I think we may not always realize that are major blessings. St. Peter says we are a “royal priesthood” in 1 Peter 2:9. I apply this understanding in a basic sense that I need to pray for my neighbors as well as myself as St. Paul tells us in 1 Timothy 2:1-6. Keeping in mind scripture like 1 John 1:5-10 & 1 John 2:1-29 keeps me in balance.

yes perhaps my heart is not in the right place, but when will it ever be enough for God?
Right now, even while I am hoping to give something good to you, I am trusting God to know how my heart really is, and only God at any moment can make my heart the way He really wants.

And only God is able to have us give you something that can be good for you.

We can pray for you. The Bible says to pray for people; so we know God is using our prayer for you, somehow, if He tells us to pray with hope for you.

We are the same as you, then, needing to trust God about your problems, and depend only on Him

And yes there is failure and pain, in myself and ones I care about, like you; so do I give up? I can, of course, and of course my negative stuff does me no good . . . of course. So, I do well not to trust that negative and nasty stuff; that is not helping. And trust God to do what He can, in spite of me, in spite of how you can be . . . in site of how convincing that negative nasty stuff can be and feel.

"casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you." (1 Peter 5 :7)

There are church groups who are not by the Bible; and they can have you do a lot of things. You can be making a lot of gestures to God, but not be personal with Him . . . trusting Him unconditionally. If we are unconditional, this means we keep trusting Him, no matter what, and never change from this.

But yes, in the Bible ones have grumped and griped against God and have even denied Him and still He in His time has helped them. And people can be quite embarrassed when they have doubted God and then He has proven Himself to them, and shown how we were our own main problem; but then we can be encouraged, how God had mercy on us . . . and His timing >

Among other things . . . God is not dealing with you in isolation. He has things working out with you but in His timing along with various other people, for loving as His family; so one problem can be how we let ourselves get isolated with our own troubles.

Instead of asking what has God done for me lately. Ask what you have done for God lately.

I hear your point, but how can a person serve the Lord until he or she has been Redeemed from the captivity of the Devil? Apart from Christ, we can do nothing, therefore, our first obligation is to ask the Lord to Redeem us from His Adamic Curse. To receive Circumcision of the heart is the single most important thing to hope for while in this life. Without it, there is no hope for Eternity with Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

A thought I had that really turned my prayer life around:

"Ask not what God can do for you, ask what you can do for God."

You say you read the bible expecting fruit and reward, what fruit and reward? If it is an earthly reward you are expecting thats not how this works brother. God is not our genie, hes not our blessing vending machine. The fruit is what YOU do for God and for those in need. The reward is a personal relationship with the creator of all things, what better reward is there?

Offer up your sufferings to God, for others. Its what i do.

7 years of issues for me. It can get so frustrating but, i will persevere in prayer and love of God.

Its not easy.

Remember, as you carry your cross in life, Jesus is indeed carrying you.

Never give up hope. Stay true to God.

God bless you...

Just curious, have you ever experienced the following?

Romans 8:16
"The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children."
Yeah you know, I'm not sure at all. I question my sanity on a daily basis, so that makes it hard to differentiate right from wrong in these matters, if you catch my drift.

Yeah you know, I'm not sure at all. I question my sanity on a daily basis, so that makes it hard to differentiate right from wrong in these matters, if you catch my drift.
If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior and Lord in faith, He did not just forgive you and leave you alone to just get on with it. He gives a specific promise that happens when you are born again:

Ephesians 1:13-14 NIV

"And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory."

Not only sealed, but indwelt:

Romans 8:14-17 NIV

"For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory."

Not sure if you have ever heard His Spirit speak to your spirit? Ask Him! He gives generously to those who ask in faith.

After I was saved, I dedicated myself to doing two things - Bible study and prayer - just conversing with God. Over time I began to notice a new phenomenon. Certain truths would come to mind during prayer and then days later I would find these same truths in the Bible - that I had never seen or heard before. Profound truths. The first time or two I thought well that's interesting. After the 10th or 20th time over a 3 month period I had to conclude that what He promised was true - He lives in me and talks to me through His Word AND prayer. And my life now was an ever-unfolding revelation of Him. And He was leading me. A real relationship.

He didn't stop there. He then led me to a Bible-believing church and bam! the pastor was preaching the same truths. Then I joined the singles group and bam! just about everyone was experiencing the same thing. That's how I knew I wasn't just nuts.

And.. He doesn't stop there. Then you start to see Him in His creation - and I don't mean just nature - but science, technology, art, everything. Not just see Him, but hear Him. And in a hundred other ways.

And I'll bet that all the believers here who are reaching out to you can say the exact same thing. I can see it in their posts. It's not just head knowledge - it's a real relationship.

All you got to do is ask. You have His promise. God bless!

Matthew 7:7-8 NIV

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened."
