  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

This has bothered me for awhile. I've been wondering why it is that people constantly talk about how God is going to destroy America and/or the world because of our growing acceptance of homosexuality. Well, God didn't destroy the world during the Holocaust, so what makes people think he cares more about homosexuality?

Does this strike anyone else as a bit...off, morally?

Because people are obsessed with Sex and HOW people go about it. People can't keep their minds out of the gutter, and according to some (as they would have us believe) neither can God. Honestly, the Divine being an omnipotent being, why would he care about when we have sex, who its with, or how? Aren't there more important things going on in the world than sex, like say I don't know, world hunger, poverty, famine, disease, etc.?

Exactly. With such horrible things going on in the world that people seem oblivious to, I don't think God cares about what goes on in the bedrooms of two people in love. At all.

If anything I believe the Divinity would applaud the couple for making the world just a little bit better by loving one another. Spreading love is important, lol, IMO.

So are we in agreement that there are more important issues that need to be dealt with before we can argue incessantly about who's screwing who and how?

Yes, we're agreed. :)

Because whilst we are getting all worked up about the terribly naughty act of bonking someone of the same sex, it provides the perfect excuse to ignore our abuses of the third world, people trafficking, genocide, wars, poverty in our own nation, child abuses going on under our noses, a substandard education system, elderly people living alone for weeks at a time without visitors, the rape of our natural resources, global warming, our abuse of immigrant labour and willingness to make them work on next to no pay, the people in society who have no friends, ethnic cleansing, the existence of Nuclear Missiles, racial and sexual divides still being in place in our society . . . .

Oddly enough, in my Bible, it was the latter things that Jesus spoke out against, and which receive most time in the Bible. For instance, the Bible has around 900 verses telling us to look after the poor otherwise we are failing in our worship to God.

But heck, we just ignore that truth - those 5 verses that say homosexuality provide such a nice excuse for us to vent our archaic egotistical self-righteous prejudices and also allow us to get out of doing the much more difficult job of following what God wants from the church.

So you see, WorldFriction, it is the perfect compromise!

Because god can easily relate to the idea of smiting/killing/torturing those who you don´t like, but, being non-physical, has no sense for sexuality?
Or maybe his focus on the evil of sexual pleasure is just a "sour grapes"kind of thing?

It's so much easier to believe that God is only worried about sins one is not tempted to commit...
Otherwise I might have to take a look at that beam in my own eye!

Quoted for love and emphasis.

I REALLY don't like how Christ is used to justify hatred and intolerance. Nothing irritates me more than hearing "have a nice day, you're inferior!" said by someone claiming to be Christian, while speaking of Jesus burning gays and Muslims and everyone else America Doesn't Like.

You wonder why non-Christians feel so strongly against these types of people? Because they are not acting in the Christ at all. What ever happened to the notion of Love? Love has no need for war and no tolerance of suffering. Stop me if I'm wrong, but I believe Christ's message was essentially "What you do to others you do to yourself, because in essence you are all one." That said, it would seem that anyone who truly regards Christ's messages would be more concerned with REAL issues (poverty, war, etc), and not bickering about convenient distractions like OMGGAYMARRIAGE!!

Hi WF  It's so great to be able to participate in a topic that you have created. :)

I will try to answer your question from my point of view which is just mine, because I am unworthy to speak for our Heavenly Father. If I wrong Him by doing so I pray that He will forgive me, and I hope that He will because He is merciful and my intentions here are good.

*takes a deep breath before beginning*

This is such a deeply emotional topic, isn't it? We all know and love people who are homosexual. Maybe we all don't, but I do, and I'm sure there are many here that also do.

I've been sitting here for a bit trying to put this into words and I'm having a really hard time. I don't know if I can do it justice, but here goes...

To the Heavenly Father, sin is sin... all sins are equally capable of keeping us out of His presence. All sins are capable of causing each and every human to perish. Not just one sin, or some sins, but all sins. However, God, being a loving Father, is not willing that any should perish and in fact wants each of His creation to come to repentence. See 2 Peter 3:9 for scripture to support this.

In the USA, and in all of the world, sin prevails. We must look again to God's word to see what sin is.

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God." (Galatians 5:19-20).

As we look at this scripture and apply it to the behavior we see in the world today, and more specifically in the USA (because that is the topic of your question) we come to understand that if our Father were to turn His back on our country it would be because we are embracing these sins. When we embrace these sins, we turn our back on Him, because all sin is an offense against our God and a rejection of who He ultimately is.

If the USA is abandoned by God and His protective angels, ultimately demolished, it will be because we are immersed in sins, not one, but many. So I don't believe that we can blame all of this on homosexuality or the people of our country embracing homosexuality. I think it's much bigger than that. Sex outside of marriage is a sin, and God's word says that sodomy is also a sin. However, it also says that many other things which are even more widly embraced are sins. Hatred comes to mind. In my heart, I think that hatred and self-love (worship of self and also worship of others ... idolatry)are at the root of the destruction of mankind, and all of these other sins are the sum of these two sins. I could be wrong but this is what I feel.

These are my opinions and what I believe about God, but again I apologize to my Heavenly Father if I am not conveying His love for all of you appropriately. I know that God loves each of us so much, (including homosexuals). I also get that it's really hard to grasp that, if we have not been brought up to understand who He is, or if we were brought up to have religion crammed down our throats. I believe that if we embrace God's love for us, and do His work here as we have been commanded to do by Jesus (Love God first above all things, and then love one another as we have been loved), also embracing the golden rule (do unto others as you would have done unto you), then we will not show hatred toward homosexuals but will instead love them through the eyes of Christ. These are just people like you and I, and they need love, compassion, and prayer. If God means for them to change then He will change them after they accept Him. If He does not change them after they accept Him then that is not up to us to judge. God knows what He is doing. We must not attempt to judge others, in His place, for this is a grave sin against Him to do so! That doesn't mean that we embrace sin, and it doesn't mean that we put ourselves above those that we see as sinners, because the truth be told, for every person you see as a sinner, God see's about 100 times more sin in you (same can be said about me and any of us so that's not a personal statement).

To me, this Christianity, it is.... personal. It is a personal acceptance of, first, the belief in God, and second the belief that He (out of love and mercy) sent His Son to die for our sins, and then raised that same Son from the dead (resurrection) to show that He could and would do the same for us, if we believe. Our sins died with Jesus, if we believe. That doesn't mean that we won't ever sin again, because we do, but acceptance of Christ brings about a change in us. It changes who we are in that it changes our desires, and helps us focus our hopes, and plans, on that relationship with God and on living in a way that maintains that relationship with Him. When we slip up, we know to ask for forgiveness.

Ok so I have rambled on a bit here, but I hope I have answered your question. I tried my best. Thank you for asking it. It's a really good question.

There is much unrepented sin in America and well, everywhere else too. Of course it's not just homosexuality, but also murder of unborn, and we have almost everyone lying about everything everyday, and a multitude of other things I needn't list that we were all guilty or still are guilty of now. Not one of us could stand and not be condemned. I do think we're due for judgment, but perhaps maybe for the sake of those that repent and turn away. (Not loving their sin and struggling, but those who hate it and are struggling.) Just what I'm thinking sometimes sitting around. (Bet this will be put on that hypocritical site..)

God will eventually destroy the whole world but not because of homosexuality. He will destroy the world because of sin. Sin is anything thing that goes against God and since God is holy and perfect a lot of things are sins. For example the bible teaches that we are to be anxious of nothing for God will provide, therefore whenever anyone worries about something that is a sin. We are all scum compared to God’s holiness which is why we need to accept Jesus’ sacrifice to make us clean. Homosexuality is only one sin, the world will not be destroyed because of acceptance of homosexuality it will be destroyed because of humans rejecting and denying God.

God is so large and powerful that He can worry about all problems no matter how large or small they seem. Jesus even said that every hair on our heads is numbered. God does care about world hunger and about our sex lives.

Matthew 10:
29: Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
30: But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31: Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Really? Then why hasn't he destroyed it already?

I doubt God "worries" about anything.

I can't even grasp the concept of that kind of God, a living being who's whole purpose, apparently, is to be concerned about everything everyone says, does, thinks, how many hairs on their heads, etc. Why would a being like that exist? Where would it come even from?

Maybe God is just giving us more time to accept and follow Him.

1 Timothy 2:
3: For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4: Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Such love and care is hard for many to accept but it is real and wonderful. As far as where God came from the only thing I can say is that He always was. That is simple to say but I don’t think humans with their limited brain capacity can really wrap there minds around that, I know I can’t.
