• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why do the Messianic write God as G-d?

Out of respect.
Imagine this:

You are studying the Bible, and you write some notes. On these notes, you have written the name of G-d.
When finished with the notes, you crumple them up and throw then in the garbage.
When you look at the garbage when taking it out, you see the name of G-d crumpled up, in the foul-smelling garbage, maybe with dirty diapers on it, coffee grounds, etc.

Not too respectful.

I see. But don't you believe the true name of God is unknowable or that a name doesn't even exist? Isn't the term "God" just something us mortals use to refer to the un-nameable? Thus if you walked over or threw out a piece of paper with the term "God" written on it you wouldn't be disgracing anything because it's just a term we humans use and not the real name of God? Or am I way off base here with your beliefs?

Do you, like so many people in America, yell out the name of G-d or Yeshua (Jesus) when you hit yor thumb with a hammer?
Most Christians and Jews, AFAIK, avoid doing so out of respect, even though the word "G-d" or "Jesus Christ" or even "G-dda*n" isn't actually the unknowable name of G-d.
We try to avoid taking the name in vain - out of respect and veneration.

Thank you fingerprint for so kindly asking and with respect instead of presuming. We are happy to explain why we believe what we believe and why we do what we do. There are many that would choose instead to make up lies and vilify us for things they don't understand, and many of these things not only do they condemn or call names or worst but they don't realize that they are doing these to the L-rd as well.

I am sure you made him smile today for your humbleness and love.

Shalom :)
