  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I still don't know how my cross isn't an R.C. cross .

Surely we are not going to let shapes of crosses divide us on top of all the other silly things .
Yeah...it is a little perplexing

I'm really attached to my icon. It unmistakably identifies me as a Catholic, Latin rite. :liturgy:

At this point, in my short life as a Christian, I'm compelled to make the distinction.

OH, alright, before I go ...
NOW i see what you're saying.
YOu're saying that I claim that the apostles are teaching me simply by my reading their words.
(IS that correct?)

And if so I assume your point is that you have not only their words but ... something better too?

Now this part is just plain .....(insert polite word for goofy)

I asked a legit question Secundulus.
You dont want to answer it fine.
I will never shirk from truth again here.
It could be way too costly.. and we're called to emulate HIM
who IS truth.
 God bless you.
I think I did answer it. But here goes again. Words are simply symbols on paper that only have the meaning that we ascribe to them.

If there are two conflicting meanings, which is more likely to be correct. Is it the meaning given by a guy who talked to the writer? Or is it the meaning given by some guy who wrote 1500 years after the fact.

First and second century. Volume 1.

Okay. And what do you want to look at that is taught now that was taught then?

Here's what you said,

That thing is the Apostolic Body of Christ left by Christ to tend the faithful when he left for a time. The symbol that unites it is the Eucharist.

And yes, that is not only in scripture, it is the universal witness of the early Church.

This is otherwise known as the Universal Church.

I don't want to look at anything we haven't already mutually disagreed on many times before.

This goes beyond their writings to scripture itself anyway.

What does the whole witness of scripture indicate that Christ left.

Did he leave an invisible neo-gnostic cult of individual self actualization such as described by modern evangelicals?

Or did he leave a visible Church community that dwelt in doctrinal and sacramental unity to be his witness to the world such as described by Rome?

The answer is self evident.

And yes, I came to this conclusion all by myself by reading the scriptures just like Messrs. Luther and Calvin said to do. I also came to a different conclusion through my own personal study than did those two distinguished gentlemen. What do we make of that? Which of us is the Holy Spirit deceiving.

Its sorta like a mercedes driving up by an old beat up chevy type thing.

Its neither here nor there, they are just cyber crosses ^_^

Better yet, you imagine an ornamental golden cross next to an old wooden one, then close your eyes and imagine which one Jesus would be driving or carrying. And even better then that, drop all appearances of things altogether, and pick up the one you cannot see at all

My cousin (Catholic) each time we walked past her Church, she made the sign of the cross... :crossrc:

Once I asked her why she did it, she had no idea:confused:
Perhaps she was embarrassed to give her reason

My dad ex catholic burried metals with faces of one of the saints praying for certain things that each saint was supposedly able to give him or something like that, he had various saint metals them hanging off his rearview mirror of his car too. I never saw him do that, some catholics do my family didnt do that only when propted in the church, they just followed the lead of the assembly bickering in between the kneels, stand ups etc

Guys and Gals,
This thread is very controversial (even making that statement is redundant) and I just want to clear some air. The main points everyone has made have all been for the wrong reason. Isn't Christianity about looking at your own faults? Holding friends accountable instead of judging them out ofprideful disagreement? So far this thread has been successful at causing us to bicker with each other, when the most important thing is your relationship with Christ. We ALL agree that Christ died for us. We ALL agree he rose again on the 3rd day. And we ALL can agree that most of these posts are for the wrong reasons. Let's do what Christians do and forgive each other as Christ Forgave us
Good point :)

sorry rawson. You sport whatever icon you choose.
Far be it for me to dictate to you.
I was just curious and we ALL know how that turned out for kitty.

I think I did answer it. But here goes again. Words are simply symbols on paper that only have the meaning that we ascribe to them.
I didnt hear you say that but i agree. naturally...

If there are two conflicting meanings, which is more likely to be correct. Is it the meaning given by a guy who talked to the writer? Or is it the meaning given by some guy who wrote 1500 years after the fact.
[/QUOTE]
I see, So you're saying that if I 'read' what Paul said and someone who 'may' have
"heard' him say those words, then the other guys perception is just naturally
more 'correct' than mine...
And you ask me which is more likely to be correct.
My answer is ... that all depends.
Had I been there 'hearing' his words, why would i have gotten a different perception
than I would 'reading' those same words?
Then it would have been ME PLUS that other guy writing OUR perceptions.
(and iirc that's exactly what we have...many many authors have penned their
thoughts about what was said then/what happened then...)
So unless you can somehow enlighten me (and you're welcome to) I must of course,
arrive at a different conclusion.

Did he leave an invisible neo-gnostic cult of individual self actualization such as described by modern evangelicals?

Or did he leave a visible Church community that dwelt in doctrinal and sacramental unity to be his witness to the world such as described by Rome?
:preach:OBJECTION OBJECTION!! :preach:

... strawman

And yes, I came to this conclusion all by myself by reading the scriptures just like Messrs. Luther and Calvin said to do. I also came to a different conclusion through my own personal study than did those two distinguished gentlemen. What do we make of that? Which of us is the Holy Spirit deceiving.
Good question.
And if you find THAT answer, you'll be all set :)
Hint: it's right in front of you.

Its sorta like a mercedes driving up by an old beat up chevy type thing.
Hey are we both still here?? LOL

I did get cleaned up though :)
(a little washing of water by the word.)

we crack me up

Don't you think that all 4 of us would agree that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh?

My mistake.....we have nothing to talk further about then sir.

NRB, I forgive you for everytime you've annoyed me or said something false or mean.

However, I'm putting you on my ignore list. I don't want to read your posts anymore.

Because Jesus Christ is physically present in the church, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. :crossrc:

It's a sign of respect. :crossrc:

In the 'building'??
HE resides in His 'body'
but thats not the brick and mortar building.
So in that case, she can cross herself when she walks by any of us.
:p

It's the name he went by for a long time, until he changed it to RevJohn something, now its liturgy in Dminor. HIs actual name is John. We were friends once.
Irreconcilable differences?

My teenagers have church on Tuesday nights and the local diner has a deal
on ribs. TWO full racks plus two sides for 13.99.
And they serve coffee that's surely heaven sent.

:yum:

So... while the kids are away LOL
