  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I would rather never talk about roman catholicism at all. It would be great if we could just talk about Christ and applying God's word to our lives. I firmly believe if we focus on Christ and living by the word of God then we will see results in our lives, we will have conviction and will move closer to being molded into his image.

We do that all the time at my parish.

That's ridiculous, and actually if you read the thread it was proven quite true.

Many have observed this. We're about to move forward please don't hinder us NRB.

No it's not and I'm not hindering....you stated flat out your "would rather not talk about Roman Catholicism at all..." yet you start a thread about it.
I'm not going anywhere bud.

In my experience, the evangelical spends more time talking about their ideas of the Catholic Church, then the Catholic spends talking about anything.
Oh Snap
;)

Because the Catholic Church has the full revelation of Jesus Christ.
Then you'd think they'd teach us about Jesus since they're more 'in the know' ;)

Evangelicals talk about their personal revelation of Jesus Christ, which varies from evangelical to evangelical.

Quite a difference.
[/QUOTE]
HUGE difference.
(Is it bad?, methinks not)

They don't. Unless the topic of conversation warrants it, but I find that is often forced upon us from the outside (see: this forum).
I know, right?
My relatives are all RC and they never talk about church OR Jesus.
(Not dissing them, I don't say much around them either normally :) )

Yes there is. Why don't we start focusing on Christ instead of ourselves?

That would be one of my greatest criticisms of the great expression of Christianity which is neither Catholic nor Orthodox and that is what I call the 'me and Jesus' movement. That is, your relationships with Jesus become so intensely personal and individualized that your beliefs about Jesus become unique to yourselves.

are haters in CF both Protestant AND Roman Catholic)

As it does to you and your Denomination :)

John chapts 14-17 is a very good read on Jesus and His disciples

John 14 No let be being troubled of ye the heart. Be ye believing! into the God, and into Me be ye believing! In the house of My Father are many abodes. If yet no I said ever to ye that I am going to make ready a place to ye. And if ever I may be being gone and should be making ready a place to ye, again I am coming and I shall be receiving ye toward Myself, that the where am I, also ye may be. And the-where I am going away, ye are aware and the way ye are aware...............

Why criticize?
I have that intense personal individualized 'thang' going with God
There's not one thing wrong with that.

Our "beliefs' are only as good as our "actions"
and our "actions" are colored completely by our
"intense personal" knowledge of/relationship with God.

If I don't hang WITH God, I don't look at all LIKE Him.

Jesus often would go off to be alone with the Father.
THAT'S where you get energized..
Then the 'glory' of God reflects OFF of you and when
folks see you.... (they either hate ya or love ya like family lol)

9 But as it is written , Eye hath not seen , nor ear heard , neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

12 Now we have received , not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God;that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

13 Which things also we speak , not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth ; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

... 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

Actually, it's the non-Catholic/Orthodox who are trying to evangelize me. With such a lofty opinion of oneself (the poor deceived, heretical, apostate Catholic needs me to teach him about his own faith) do you think they're really interested in what I have to say?

No, most of my energy lately has been spent confronting the outrgeous attacks from the anti-Catholic spin machine.

I learn and teach about Jesus, by being a part of a concrete faith community, worshiping corporately and caring for the lost, forgotten and disenfranchised.

Anyone is welcome on board at anytime. :)

I'm ALWAYS interested in hearing revelation about God.
He reveals Himself through the most interesting sources LOL
(If you get my drift)
No, most of my energy lately has been spent confronting the outrgeous attacks from the anti-Catholic spin machine.
See that's the enemy trying to trip you up.
No need to defend a denomination.
In fact really no need to defend God
(Remember when they wanted to call down fire LOL)
Just live the life,
...
REST!

Poor guy, and yet here we are time & again.

One man's anti-Catholic is another man's anti-Christian. What to do?

I tried concrete & it was too unforgiving.

Hi, I went by another tag (or 3 lol) and recently switched it. We've met I think before. I know yer not a 'hater' but some on CF (no names) truely are haters of the RCC or even Catholicism (Old Catholic, Celtic Catholic, Polish National Catholic, etc) in general.

Question for ya.
Were Tyndale and the early Reformers haters of the RCC or did they just disagree with the doctrine of Catholicism. Thanks

http://www.greatsite.com/timeline-english-bible-history/william-tyndale.html

*snip*

A clergyman hopelessly entrenched in Roman Catholic dogma once taunted Tyndale with the statement, “We are better to be without God’s laws than the Pope’s”.
Tyndale was infuriated by such Roman Catholic heresies, and he replied, “I defy the Pope and all his laws. If God spare my life ere many years, I will cause the boy that drives the plow to know more of the scriptures than you!”

I can speculate if ya want LLOJ. :)

I would think they didn't "hate" the Church as a whole, and I know some reformers weren't going after starting new "denominations", etc.
Hatred of the Papacy is a different story though. ;)
