Why didn't Jesus write his own book?

Jesus, in a way, did right is own book. The Bible is His book.

If we accept the Trinity, and we acknowledge that the Bible comes from the Holy Spirit, then, in a sense, Jesus wrote the Bible.

Moreover, the most striking thing about Jesus is what He did, not what He said. His action was enough.

I see.

So is there a reason Jesus did not "write" his own teahings? As far as I understand there is not one book or even so one word in the Bible written by Jesus himself, why is that?

I wonder if Jesus could even read and write, could he?

I read somehwere that Jesus was illiterate???? Im not sure if this is true, I think I saw it on the history channel. If thats true, it would explain why his apostoles had to write for him.

Of course not. Jesus knew and read from the Scripture. In other words, He couldn't have been illiterate.

So why didn't jesus do so? I think that if Jesus would have wrote his own teachings, he would have be understood better IMHO.

Jesus lived in first century verbal Aramaic culture north of Judea called Galilee...

His disciples were fishermen and plain people and not members of the elete classes who were well read and could afford libraries.

Jesus was probably more like what today we think of as a "street preacher" and more itinerent preacher like John the Baptist.. The Gospel teachings of Jesus were first transmitted verbally and this verbal transmission lasted several years.. Eventually it was transcribed in Koine Greek after several years.

Many of the greatest teachers though were not literary men themselves...Ramakrishna didn't write his own books. Prophet Muhammad dictated what was revealed to Him but He Himself did not write His own books.

when He struggled against such legalism and taught the importance of following the Spirit.
While, Jesus is quoted (supposedly) saying to follow Jewish law (Torah)?

Jesus wasn't against the Torah, but he was against the fact that the picky details were overriding the bigger picture, they weren't seeing the forest for the trees. This was shown when Jesus was admonished by the religious authorities for healing on the Sabbath

In biblical times teachers rarely wrote down what they taught. Teachings were preserved orally, like the Veda. Thats why we have the biblical Gospels but also many other Gospels that aren't in the Bible like the Gospel of Thomas - that consist purely of Jesus' sayings.

Jesus was not a Yogi by Biblical context. If you want to extract characteristics of Jesus out the Bible and transfer them to your interpretation, then He could be anything that you chose to want to believe.

Jesus' purpose was not to write a book. It was to save us and to guide us by spiritual means. Those means were accomplished through the Holy Spirit who guides us and inspired the written word that we have today. The Holy Spirit bears record to the "Word" and the "Word" likewise to the Spirit. This means that the the Word of God (Christ) and the spirit of God (Holy Spirit) agree with each other in every way. To know one is to to know the other.
There is not need for a book of exact words to illustrate the authority of God, although it can often help. The Holy Spirit does reveal some of Jesus' exacts words. They can be seen in the red lettered Bible editions.

Odd, I find this to be picky. Matthew 5:27-30 "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.' But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.

Jesus could read and write, he attended the synagogue, where Jews were taught in the scriptures. It was part of the Judaic law to teach writing and reading to their children. Even when they walked along the road, the fathers were instructed to teach their children the book of law...Also remember he wrote something in the sand? What was that again? oh yes, when the men had caught the woman in adultery. That story is in the New Testament. But why he didn't write his own book... um probably because some hotshot man or woman would have grabbed it and altered it and claimed it to be the Word of God... you know what we are like!!! Hey, but He did almost write the Book of Revelation. Check it out .... Rev ch1:1 "The revelation of Jesus Christ (ohh we always thought it was St John's revelation), which God gave unto him, to show unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John." AND verse 2 "Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw", AND (oh I love this) "BLESSED is he that reads, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand." And if you continue reading (which is what I did) what is our promise for overcoming? "And he that overcomes, and keeps my works unto the end; to him will I give power over the nations:" There's more exciting stuff but I don't want to retype the whole Book of Revelation.
