The US has a court. Is the US a theocracy?

Seriously, you are comparing modern nations with ancient ones. The fact that there was a court at all is a good thing. Yes, ancient cultures had religion and government tied at the hip. The history of Christianity shows this has been true even of your religion.

If you would look, nobody in Israel is pushing for a theocracy. There are certain rights afforded to Jews such as the right of return, but that is a different matter.

Courts are good. Theocratic courts are bad.

I don't consider myself to have a religion, so you might be mistyping me. In order to have a religion, one has to attend a religious building and also perform religious rites, prayers or practices. I do none of those.

I don't follow the news with Israel. To me, they're just another nation, like Mexico, France or Zimbabwe.

I don't. But there are those pushing for theocratic governments even in the U.S. Have you heard of the right-wing "Dominionist" movements? They want to see OT laws back in the legal system. They are Christians.

It is not that. We do not simply have that and consider it done. We view the Talmud as being important to understanding the Torah. They do not have that and simply take the text and try to insert it wherever they see fit. When you are missing thousands of years of discussion as well as a lot of the how-to and why, your understanding is limited.

They are also regarded as heretics by traditional Christian orthodoxy. Dominionism would make Byzantium blush.

I can't say that none in that movement are C's, but if so, they are severely mis-guided. (There's actually a Dominionist Church near here, and when they caused an established Church to split, I was called in in the wake as damage control, to hold things together)

They understand it better. The death by stoning penalties were given to show that certain things are unthinkable. forsaking your duties as parents, for example; allowing children to grow up spoiled and unruly. (US being a case in point)
