  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why did God create satan?

I am a new Christian, myself, and have not finished the Bible yet, but my personal belief at this point is that Satan exists so that we as humans are not perfect. Satan provides temptation...some of us give in, some of us don't, and that is one of the many things that makes each person unique, as God intended.

God's intention from the start was to create angels and men who would love Him by choice. There wouldn't have been any point to creating nonautonomous beings; that would have provided no meaningful fellowship. And so there had to be the possibility of rebellion, both for the angels and for man.

Ezek 28 details satan's fall. He was created perfect, without flaw. But he dwelt on his beauty, and desired to be worshiped, and that finally led to attempting to steal God's creation away. Really, really bad idea, as will be readily apparent when this phase of things is wrapped up.

The challenges of comparison are often what God uses to demonstrate His character to His creatures. Compare your own way with God's; compare subjection to Satan's way of life, to Christ's. We're creatures of comparison. There are often things we simply can't see without contrast and comparison.

I think this is at the core of it. Love requires will, and will requires choices. God probably created Satan with a capacity for evil so there would be an anti-God choice. Therefore, those that love Him did so willingly, not because there was no other option.

VERY interesting! And that's a good way of knowing pure love...when it is chosen.

Satan started out working for GOD to test people like Job, but when we get to the new testament where "I beheld satan as lightning falling from heaven." We see his full blown rebellion take place. The word also means adversary, and applies to any of hundreds of demons and devils and even people. Satan himself is the spiritual ruler of this evil world.

Yes, there are many devils and fallen gods that people have foolishly worshipped throughout history. I'm not sure if these are of the fallen angels or were always this way.

No, in an age before ours, Lucifer was given reign over the earth and failed. Unlike Jesus who followed God's explicit instructions and ways. Like he did then, satan continues to work in opposition to God.

Good post. Without the will to obey or disobey we would not have been able to give God what we were created to give Him.

The angels and man were given this gift. You have the ability to choose and this refers to accepting the keys to heaven that Jesus says we have.

Their are consequences to all our actions and the ultimate is eternal hell or eternal heaven with God.
