"The first one to plead his cause seems right,
Until his neighbor comes and examines him."
Proverbs 18:17 (NKJV)

From the reader/viewer's point of view, debating can be a way to test if the views they've been taught about Bible passages are accurate. Instead of just listening to the first person you hear, you can hear multiple sides of an issue on what the Bible teaches and see whose position can be adequately explained from Scripture.

One of the most effective ways to preach the gospel is to show that what you're teaching is so clear from the Bible, that you're not afraid for it to be set up against public scrutiny; no response by an opponent can refute the clear interpretation of Scripture you presented.
But the word produces faith. Debate is the opposite.

I'm not convinced Scripture agrees. What does "casting down arguments" (NKJV) mean in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5? And were Paul and Barnabas in the wrong when they "had no small dissension and debate with" false teachers (Acts 15:2, ESV)?

I see this as thought control as in walking in the Spirit. (KJV)

Why not post your view. And have those who disagree post their views. Debating means either one or both do not understand scripture. If both understand scripture, there is no debate.

I like the Apologists who do not merely preach the gospel. they attach a ball and chain to their legs while doing it.

Respectable debating is fine. But we must always remember the old saying, "the main things are the plain things..."
