Pope JP uses this analogy -and that is all it is; it's not a theological statement- to emphasize the need we have for the differing but, ultimately, complementary theologies, spiritualities and cultures of the two Apostolic Churches.
As a phenomenologist, he views the deracinated west as out-of-touch with true spirituality as found in the east.
