Greetings,

I simply do not believe that hell exists, at least not in literal form. If there is a hell, it is a creation within a persons mind which becomes a self-imposed punisment in the afterlife.

I supposed in some ways, the morals and values I hold, and my desire to attain a measure of sacredness, comes from my desire to NOT create such a personal hell. This would be concurrent with my belief that any transgressions I commit will come back to me in one form or another (call it Karma, the rule of three, etc., I don't really put a name to it). So yes, fear of retribution may certainly exist. In my heart, though, I aspire to be of a more sacred nature for the sake of sacredness, and not so much because of that fear.

Respectfully,
Druweid

Do your beliefs give you comfort? I wanted to comment how beautifully stated I find this one thing you said. Let me repost it :)

So you take other human beings' opinions rather than come up with your own. Okay. I don't.

In your opinion. :) In mine, what you say has nothing to do with any deities, but with flawed human ideas of vengeance and hatred.

I know what you want me to say... so I'm going to say it. The bible was not written, and inspired by man. It is the inspired word of God.

as for the second part,"flawed human ideas of vengeance and hatred," please elaborate.

The bible was not written, and inspired by man.
Funny. Most Biblical scholars would disagree and say that the Bible was written by men, not apes or aliens or dolphins or fictional characters from the Harry Potter universe. God didn't reach down with Her finger and write it.

It is the inspired word of God.
In your opinion. :) I don't think that the Gods agree with you.

What's to elaborate on? It's obvious that no God, an embodiment of love and kindness, would ever come up with the idea of hell. Human beings hate each other enough to come up with hell, but the Gods love us. They'd never stand for us being tortured for eternity, even if in our own flaws and limitations we somehow "wanted" to be. Thus, I think it's plain to see that since Gods, the embodiment of love, didn't come up with hell, humans did.

Unless you want to argue that aliens or apes had some input on the idea. :)

A sly shift! The original statement was

The bible was not written, and inspired by man

The key word you've ignored is AND.

The quote isn't "The bile was not written by man', which is what you laughably attack.

I believe it, because it came from the same God who offered me unconditional love and eternal life. He is all powerful, and not some spineless cream puff of a god, so the concept of a place or time of punishment is not that strange to me. Its not always a matter of wanting to believe. Especially not just picking and choosing aspects of a religion to believe in. You cannot be a vegetarian, follow the ancient Greek Pantheon, or any other religion(or lack there of) and call yourself a Hindu or Bhuddist because you do not believe in eating meat. You know? If you believe in salvation, you should have to believe in hell too. If not, what are you being saved from? Kinda makes the whole idea pointless if you don't believe in hell, IMHO. But thats just me. I cannot claim to represent the views of Christianity, as much as I wished they all shared mine;). To an extent.

Sin? I'd always thought that the concept of Christian Salvation was the salvation from sin, rather than the salvation from hell.

Kinda makes the whole idea pointless if you don't believe in hell, IMHO.
So your faith in Jesus Christ is dependent on your belief in the existence of Hell?

Again...not a reason why you want to believe in it...but how it makes you feel is what I am looking for..

i do believe there is hell because Revelation 20:13-15 says: And the sea gave up the dead in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead in them, and all were judged by what they had done. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire; 15 and if any one's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

definition of HADES----Hell
