Why are we so much smarter?

In comparison, if we can do 100, chimp can do less than 1.

Example: fire, buildings, written words, literature, sciences, explorations, knowledge, art, religion.

How can anyone say we evolved from chimps?

But no one does say humans evolved from chimps. We say chimps and humans share an ancestor.

Both chimps and humans are a very long way from that common great-great-moregreats- grandmother. They learned to live in the places they can survive well in, doing the things they can do well. Humans took a different path, and learned to live almost anywhere, doing the things we do well.

We still have many things in common, inherited from that ever so many greats-grandmother and her mate.

You completely ignored my point there Juv. You don't measure intelligence by what they can't do but the level of intelligence for what they can. Can a two year old make fire, write, do science? Are they near zero intelligence? If so, how did we ever develop from being toddlers?

As others have pointed out, this is wrong. Chimpanzees are much more intelligent than, say, howler monkeys, which in turn are much more intelligent than guinea pigs, which are more intelligent than salamanders. Chimpanzees can use tools, can learn behavior simply by observing it, can learn to communicate using human sign language, and have intricate social interactions.

And so we come to the age-old question: Are dogs more intelligent than cats? [cue dramatic music]

(Incidentally, when I visited Paris last summer, I had a chance to see some orangutans feeding at the zoo. They were given an individual container of yogourt to snack on. They would pull off the lids, fold them to make a spoon shape, and use those fabricated spoons to eat the yogourt out of the containers. It's the most human-like behaviour I've seen among animals -- a behaviour even I've resorted to when forgetting to bring a spoon with my lunch! I don't think it's such a stretch to believe we share a common ancestor with the apes.)

I think intelligence is a very poor indicator in an argument pro, or anti evolutionary acceptance.

I'm a YEC myself, however, I don't think saying "look, we're smarter" is a proof of anything.

If we were evolved from apes, what are we so much smarter than apes?

Like others have pointed out we didn't evolved from apes we supposed to have evolved from a mythical creature which had two offspring , one offspring eventually went to Harvard and the other went ape. Just like the search for Bigfoot, evolutionist continues searching from this mythical creature ( by slapping bones and footprints together) which may or may not ever exist.

It is REAL strange that whenever I argue that human is smarter than ape, there is always someone who would give some "human discoveries" and argue we are in fact not. It seems these people strongly suggest we are as stupid as apes.

I simply say these people are either blind or lying for a purpose. Don't they realize that we put on dresses, eat cooked food, go to school and drive cars?

No one here is denying that humans are smarter than other apes. We're simply pointing out that animals aren't all as "stupid" as you make them out to be. God blessed many creatures with intelligence. Not just us.
