and they WON'T get into heaven

See, this is where people lose me. God, and God alone decides who enters heaven. God did not hand the keys to heaven to any human being, including Paul. No person on the face of the planet has the wisdom to make a statement concerning another's salvation.

This is stemming from another thread.

People are gay because?

1. They want to get attention
2. They are rebelling against their parents
3. They just want to engage in sinful behavior
4. It is not a choice, God made them gay
5. A combination of the first 3 choices.
6. Other

I screwed up the poll, haha, sorry

Um let's see-it depends on the person-I would say 1 and 6, because some people have a reason that they don't want to be heterosexual. Some people feel like they are other genders (in the wrong body, for example and turn into transsexuals) or maybe they had been abused as children or sometime in their lives to the point that they feel numb or dirty towards the opposite sex. It's like psychological...
I also said 1 cuz for some, it's a fad-regardless if they had been abused or not-even some are both ways : AC/DC, bisexual...then who knows? it could be 2. I don't know about 3, really.

Exactly. Some christians still think that dancing and rock music is evil. Its just which parts of the bible you choose to take seriously, as its impossible to take it all literally and seriously.

You, know? I told a policeman the same thing. That others do not take it seriously when they come to the stop sign....

Some took it literally, and tried to stop the sign as well.

Well.... let's all just drive like maniacs, why don't we? If it makes you feel alright, its OK. After all? Who knows what the stop sign really means? I looked around and said, "stop what?" I see nothing else moving.

Romans 3:18 niv
"There is no fear of God before their eyes."

Ok. This is actually a rediculous premise, being a former LEO I can definitely tell you that only about 10% of laws on the books are actually known by the public and obeyed.

If I took every law out of the Florida Statutes for criminal law and motor vehicles (which is about 1600 pages) you wouldn't understand the majority. Such as statutes regarding aftermarket equipment on vehicles being a non-moving violation.

Was I seriously going to stop every high school kid with shiny wheels and a loud exhaust and issue him (a then) $71.50 citation?

It is impossible to have pure eyes. I am 22 years old, and have spent almost that entire time in America. I have learned certain definitions for certain words, and I have learned that certain ideas are "good" and should be embraced. I have had a certain set of experiences, which have given me a particular education. These are the eyes I read through. I cannot just forget that I am a 21st century woman, and newly graduated student.

You have your own education, and your own values, and you also cannot forget your entire life.

To read without bias would be impossible--the act of looking at ink on a page and mentally turning it into meaningful language is an interpretation, and everybody will interpret according to what their life experiences are. The word "pen" refers to a writing impliment to most, but an enclosed area for animals to somebody who was raised on a farm.

Likewise, to a 21st century American, "mustard" is a spicy sandwich spread. Some may know that the seed is very small. To such a person, "faith like a mustard seed" will mean that even the smallest amount of faith is worth having, and can drastically change a life. Mustard is pretty neutral to us. We have no emotional reaction to it.

To the audience Jesus actually spoke to, though (which was not us), that would mean something else entirely. Anybody living in the Mediteranian region in the 1st Century would have had extremely different experiences with mustard. They would have lived their entire lives hearing warnings about it--that you should never let even the slightest speck of mustard into your fields, because it is a vicous weed which will overtake everything around it. Mustard is dangerous and to be treated with caution and fear. What would they have thought, upon hearing Jesus tell a crowd that the Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed? What would a Roman soldier have thought?

No, I do not read through "pure eyes" because it is impossible to do so. What I try to do is read through honest eyes. I learn as much as I can about a culture and language, and try to understand what was originally said. I do not simply listen to the end results of a 2000 year-long game of "telephone" and call myself "pure," because I accept that without question.

I'm sorry I am not intending to enter this particular debate but I have to ask. It seems from what you have written that you do not believe in objective truth. Is this true?

Just because we are all biased that doesn't imply that all reading material is subjective. We should still try the best to read the material as the authors intended, not as we wish to percieve it. The time limit doesn't excuse bad theology. That's why I insist that every church provide the proper theological program so we can understand God's word better. And you're wrong, the principles in the bible are still very understandble since they trancend time, that's why we have the bible. Why the heck did God give us a brain? To use it and apply prover methodologies to understand his word..what's worse about your post is that you don't seem to even believe there is an inspired component that guides us as well.

I saw Mling's statement as saying exactly this.

And you're wrong, the principles in the bible are still very understandble since they trancend time, that's why we have the bible.

I tend to think that you are wrong. Many people have great difficulty understanding the bible. Based on sentence structure, dialiect, etc. the bible can be very confusing - principle is subjective.

Why the heck did God give us a brain? To use it and apply prover methodologies to understand his word..

Wow, so you actually agree with me about science?

what's worse about your post is that you don't seem to even believe there is an inspired component that guides us as well.

Did she deny God in her post?

She sure implied it

I'm not sure I agree. I know I was the first to ask her but I honestly cannot figure out why I felt this was her point.
BTW I meant to post that I will be scheduling that CAT scan.
