Why are there so many atheists on a Christian site?

It's lazy to blame people for the non-existence of God. You should only worry about the claims of Christ.

Only as much as you should worry about the claims of other religions.

Christ was here. That is a fact. Christ made claims. Stop looking to people to find God, you will get let down most times.

He did not author any documents. He's comparable to Socrates in this way. Everything you and I know about him is from other people.

Let me put it this way.

A God may possibly exist, but looking at the reality of the world and comparing that to the Christian description of God, it is highly unlikely in my view, the Christian God exists.

Therefore, I am atheist towards the Christian God based on comparing the description of this God to reality, but am agnostic towards non personal Gods, who are not as well defined.

I'd be inclined to say the modern Christian God. It seems to me that in the past the Jewish and then Christian God was not viewed as being omnipotent in the modern sense. I also find no support for the modern version of omnipotence in Scripture.

They are seeking something more, deep down they know that the world cannot just create itself there has to be a creator. Kent Hovind explains it all too well.

You can keep thinking that, but I find 'I don't know' to be more powerful answer for what created the universe. And it lets me focus on closer issues, like how to treat my fellow humans.

And claiming there is a creator does nothing to link it to a single religion. You still have to go through hoops to connect that claim with the God of the Bible.

If god did have any cures, he sure kept them a secret to me. I have seen enough people of the faith dieing of cancer to question that.

This is exactly how I feel. I call myself an agnostic atheist, but you could even classify me as a Deist with the way that I feel about the creation of the universe, if you use a loose definition of "deity." But I see absolutely no reason to go so far as to believe that the Abrahamic God exists. It doesn't make sense on a universal scale. It's no different than when people thought the Sun revolved around the Earth because God made us the center of everything...

Is that information readily available either to regular posters or to the staff?

It would be interesting to know.

If the datum is not available, it would be likewise interesting to know how the OP defines "so many".

Perhaps there are as many Bokononists, Satanists or Animists here as atheists, but they are just less noticeable?

First of all, knowledge is not some kind of substance that floats around in the uinverse wating to be found or can be hidden. Secondly, your comment is irrelevant to the question why god does not prevent it from happening, governments efforts or not, else are you trying to you suggest that a goverment are more powerful than God is? Which begs the question; are you dumb or what?

I'm curious about this, too. Of course, the data wouldn't be perfect. I'm an atheist, but I'm also UU, so I put "Other Religion."

And "having faith" is a gift from God... or so some other Christians tell me.
But you have to understand that for an outsider like me, all of you are equally unbelievable. You have to offer something more than "faith" to someone who doesn't deal in faith.

I appreciate your honesty here. I often feel that I fail as a Christian if I can't 'sell' the idea of God. But this is a mistake on my part. Again God has a say in it. He may use the believer to plant a seed in the heart an unbeliever, but He Himself can only water that seed. If you feel that is has not happened in your life, I can only offer my condolences from my perspective and pray for you. I am grateful that God finally woke me up and put me on a better path than the one I had been living, I prayerfully hope He can do the same for you.
