For me to just say 'I am no longer a Christian' would be a massive thing just at the moment, that's why I've joined this forum, I am already getting the feeling I am on the right track though, I just need confirmation for myself.

Honestly, you are really aggravating me with this nonsense. I've never had to fight so hard with so little results on an issue so absurdly obvious. Ok. So what I said is that God does not want us to put anything before Him. That is the point, that the rich young ruler wanted his wealth more than God. That is what an idol is. Something more important than God.
So, money is not necessarily the evil, but it is the love of money over God.
Does that make sense?
What did Jesus say the MOST IMPORTANT COMMANDMENT IS; to love the Lord your God with ALL your HEART, SOUL and MIND.
That's the point.

Maybe that is your problem.
You are trying to be religious. That never works. Just love God and let Him love you. He is your best friend even if sometimes He seems farther away, our feelings often deceive us. Feelings are fleeting.

Do you love Jesus more than your wealth?
Did Jesus not say that whatever you do to little children and poor people is what you are doing to him?
You have enough wealth to provide for hundreds of hungry mouths, each for a decade. You could sell your TV and feed the starving children, but you just won't do it because you love your TV more than you love Jesus.
