For any who still think that abortion is a difficult decision between a woman and a doctor, I highly suggest you call your health insurance company and ask them "under what circumstances will you deny a claim for abortion?" When I asked that question, they said "none". I asked them if they even ask for a reason why the procedure needs to be done, and they said "no". They will even bill it one of two different ways, as a specialist visit or as a same-day walk in. That means they will pay for any abortion without exception. There are no lines, no decisions, no reasons, no prior authorization required. They don't even check to see if it's medically necessary. There is no line saying "only if the mother's life is in danger". There is no line saying "only before a certain level of development" or "only before a certain number of weeks". Unlike with a live birth, you don't have to notify them months ahead of time, and you don't get a bill denying coverage. I know this because I asked. You don't have to take my word for it... you can ask too. I hope your insurance company has different policies than mine did.
Even if keeping abortion legal would reduce the number of abortions, it would still be wrong, for the same reason that murder should be illegal regardless of how effective the law is. Truth exists independent of its usefulness. The statement matters. Nevertheless, it is impossible that keeping abortion legal will reduce the number of abortions.
