NO. You have no grounds for saying that, considering the term "neighbor" does not mean anything like that!

Check a dictionary. There is the element of "neigh unto" and the Greek term used in the parable of the Good Samaritan means something like "close by."

Scripture defines neighbor:

36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

Yes, it is those for whom you feel a "pull" or a tug on in your heart, or a prompting by the H.S. (I call it) to be merciful or kind for/towards. (that some are scared of or reject), but, we should not be reacting that way to it, that is hardening your heart, and closing it off, and rejecting the voice or prompting of the H.S., instead of opening it up, and listening to and obeying the Holy Spirit, and sometimes this may involve risks, but gladly accept the risk and trust in the Lord speaking to your heart by the H.S....

God Bless!

A certain man asked Jesus about the greatest commandment(s)... Jesus answered with the two (we know)...

Then it says that the man asked Jesus, "Who is my neighbor...?" To which Jesus tells him the parable of the Good Samaritan (that we know)... Then asked the man who made himself neighbor to the man who fell amongst thieves... And the man says "The good Samaritan" Then Jesus said something like: "You also be doing likewise..."

So, "Who is/are our neighbors...?" And, "How do we show them that we Love them, like we love ourselves...? (and God)...?

They are the people who are down and out in life and need a helping hand up, and like the Priest and the Levite, we basically pass these neighbors who were supposed to love by everyday... On our drive to work, we see them, and ignore them and pass them by... When we walk the street even, we avoid them, and don't want them to bother us, often, avoiding that/those parts of town on purpose... Some are begging on a street corner...

They get overlooked by many of us, many of them have become invisible to us...?

How is that loving your neighbor as yourself...?

You should want to do for them, what you would want others to do for you, if you were in that situation or circumstance...

If everyone were taking part in loving our neighbor, as our neighbor is defined here, no one would be down and out for very long anywhere, if everyone were following this commandment correctly...

God Bless!
first you need to understand the word originally used (by Moses) in the this commandment. (also in other places in the bible where the word neighbor is used) is רעך. which means someone that loves you/care about you. not someone that leaves next to you. put that in parable of the good Samarian and suddenly what jesus is saying makes sense. if you put the person living next to you in there it totally dosent make sense.
you can also see this is the meaning of the word in Matthew 5 43-46:
You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbori and hate your enemy.’ 44But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?.
you can understand from the context the word translated to neighbor meant "those who love you".
so the commandment is "love those who love you as yourself".

I prefer the source directly:

Leviticus 19:18
You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

34 Bible Verses about the Neighbor

the large majority of the verses in the link don't contain the word neighbor.
anyway רעות is a very common name in in Israel today. my brother's wife is called like this so is several other people I know. it was also the name the teachers wanted us to call our class in high school. and the reason they gave was that it means a caring relationship between people.
this means God is saying (trough mosses) he expect all the Hebrews to be in that kind of relationship(Leviticus 19:18 ).
but Jesus later in the parable of the good Samarian(Luke 10:25-37) explains. that in realty it is not like that. some people of various ethnicities are like this. and some are not. as you can understand from the story. the 2 first people that pass. are not that kind of neighbor. and so you are not expected to love someone like this as yourself. we are supposed to care a bit about someone like this("love your enemies"). but less. though.. of course we should not start some bad relationship like this.

I'm not sure what your upshot is. I care for my neighbors, ask about their jobs, their boss, their free time activities.
Some are gay men, gay women, single moms, single sisters living with jobless brothers.....all KINDS of people who are each and every one, my neighbors. Anybody who fails to "build up" my neighbors is on my "hit" list.
St. Paul included.

I think love is dead in most cases, pure love does not exist, only love that demands. Now i´m being harsh, and i´m sorry, but people love themselves, and they might love God, but they definitely don´t love their neighbors, that is what i see in most cases, so that means we go against what we believe in, simple as that... But it doesn´t matter if we do things correctly right?? all people care about is if they are saved, then love and everything else can go away, but i don´t see it matching, but that´s just me.. Our ego is way too big, that is what i think...

While all true, it's not new.

Your "neighbor" can be anyone but are normally those whom you know to some degree. They know you and your positive and negative sides. They are the hardest ones to love often because we judge their words, actions and deeds and think that we are better than them because of it. These are also the ones that don't give us much credence in our opinions. Its like the "light" version of our families.

Can it also be those you feel closest to...?

Dear SkyWriting. Who Is my neighbour? All I know and all I meet, friends or not friends. That is short and to the point. Jesus gave us 2 Commandments, the first is Love God with all thy hear and all thy soul. The second is like it: love thy neighbour as thyself. What could be more to the point? Treat everybody as you would like to be treated, then accept God`s judgement. God is love, and God will treat us truly and with Love.
The Bible tells us: Repent and be Born Again, then treat all you meat with Love and Compassion, and kindness. God sees our hearts, and God will treat us truly and lovingly. I say this with love, SkyWriting. Greetings from Margit, your sister in Christ.
