I lived there three times, in Daytona Beach, Coral Springs, and the tiny town of Miami Lakes where the original Don Shula's Steakhouse is. I have issues with Dade County such as yellow traffic lights down there apparently means to most people: SPEED UP.

I don't hate Florida but i dislike it immensely mainly because of the weather. I'm a cold weather person. Quick: # of nights in Florida when it's less than 32°F? About 100 too few for me! (i like it cold! Prefer every day in summer to top out around 72º max.)

I wouldn't mind vacationing in Key West again someday. I love that town, well, maybe not love, but i like it a lot. Generally I severely dislike touristy places when the tourist season is in full swing but Key West i can tolerate. The place has got a funky, down home, laid back feeling there that I really appreciate.

So anyway, no, don't hate it but there are 50 states in the U.S. and Florida's the very last state I'd want to be right now or be anytime, i'd even choose Delaware to live over Florida!

Ok my two pennies back at you...

I would have never moved down here if I knew off the bat I don't like the heat or at least like the cold more than the other. I am in Sebring, it is the same town I lived in NJ but different name and different state. It is small, has everything you need within 15min driving, we are 1 hr 45 min. away from either the east or the west coast. We are about 2 hours away from Oralndo and 1 hr 40min away from Tampa.
We have nice downhome things like 12 hours of BBQ 12 Hours Sebring Races a county fair right up the road, craft fairs on the circle downtown every other month and just about most of us know most of us, meaning I can go anywhere I choose and see people I know either by face or name.
We were hit bad by the hurricanes, but who wasn't and eventhough we are still suffering it was not enough for us to high tail it out of here. I would have never been able to afford a house in NJ, couldn't stand the NY commuters and their attitudes andymore or the stress. There is no stress here, it is laid back and feels like home.
Sure there are bod days, heck no one is perfect, I have been to everystate on the east coast clear to ohio and kentucy been to california and the forur corners area but still see this as home.
I was born in New Jersey lived there untill I was 24, my parents sold my chilhood home and moved to Sebring, which is where my great grandmother lived untill the day she died. Grand ma is here and her sister and daughters. It is not as bad as one would think, if you go into knowing that sure it gets hot, very hot, but man invented AC and all the stores etc have AC and we are a state of lakes beautiful lakes, and there is alot to do. In the summer there are less touists then now, all the snow birds are here now, but they bring the business and money with them, and many of our friends are snow birds, so it is great to have them home.
It is 66 degrees, right now,3:51 p.m., perfectly sunny the skys are bright blue with a gentle breeze, no heat, no ac just the house open and enjoying the weather. It has been below 40 degrees everynight at my house for the last 2 weeks. Not bad if you ask me, I like the snow, heck I miss it sometimes, but nothing has made me want to move away, you learn real fast to stay away from the tourist traps when the tourists are here, there is more then enough other stuff to do.

Anyway theres my 2 1/2 pennies.

hehehe...reminds me of when I worked in a convenience store, right on highway 98. We would get all the traffic, at spring break, from people driving through to Destin and Panama City. Car and bus loads of the most obnoxious humans alive!!! When they would leave, I would tell my manager...Ther are 49 other states!!!! Why can't they pick one of THOSE!!!!!

Since I've only visited I can't say much, but I do have to say I was a bit dissappointed. In Oregon there are so many wooded areas I can go, or even beaches, and I will be the only one there. In Florida, I don't know if I was in the wrong places or what, but it seemed like there was always a bunch of other tourists who didn't care about the environment around them, trash everywhere, feeding wild animals despite bold and easily visible signs. There was even a kid "fishing" with the pole and everything, for a heron, which he caught by the way. So I suppose I was more dissapointed with how Florida is treated.

Although the bugs were definitely not a plus:(

I was wondering where here in Florida are you? Because it sure was not hot today!! Well not here in Sebring anyway! Any we have more oaks and palms here then evergreens, and now there are no bugs outside, where I am. If you were not just 14 I would tell you if you hate it so bad just leave, but I know it is not that easy...;) And I lived in NJ all my life and everyone is different, I loved the snow as a kid, but as an adult, driving in it sucks and is very dangerous, cleaning up the snow and ice is not fun and wearing huge bulky coats stink, slipping and falling in parking lots is not fun, having a power failier in the middle of a blizzard then having all your pipes freeze and flood your house is the worst. What I am saying is no where is perfect, everywhere has its dangers, hazards and annoyances but by far, my entire family is healthier and happier here because we can enjoy the outside all year through. The bugs aren't bad, I mean we had bugs in NJ, it got to be 112 degrees in NJ the last year we lived there it only got to be 102 here this past summer. It is no different here in that aspect. I am sorry but I must stick up for my home, it makes me sad that people hate where they live, hate almost everything about it when it is all a glorious gift from God, I would never complain about that.

hehehe...Feel better, now? LOL I know what you mean, though!

Look at it this way, though (yep, here comes the grown-up nonsense). Imagine all the world that is still open to you! You have so much life ahead of you, and it's a big, wide world! Don't hate where you are...set your sights on where you want to go! How are your grades? Are you learning a foreign language? In High School, you could apply to be a foreign exchange student. Join a youth mission. You have so much life ahead of you, and it's God's job to work out the details. It's your job to enjoy the ride, and serve where led!

Love in Christ!!

WOW, I'd rep you but I'm out so I've blessed you instead :) I feel for ya, Melissa. Glad you got that off your chest! Florida some people love just the way it is. That's their choice, should be respected... i don't understand it but i don't understand a lot, not that I'm dumb but that people just choose things that are very weird to me! Florida's weird to me. No four seasons there... maybe in the upper part of the state you feel that a little bit but not in most of the state. People bringing their Christmas trees home with the convertible top down? What's up with that?! Hot and sticky like only everyday in the summer with the predicable afternoon shower. On the plus sides they have no million and ten accidents when it snows, only some when it rains 'cause people think it's okay to do 70 in the rain... until they hydroplane and hit a tree or the truck in front of them. Sad but in defense of Florida that happens everywhere.

Look, Melissa, you're 14 so you have some time before college - if you wanna get the heck outta Florida and you plan to go to college, go out of state, somewhere in the north. As far north as Tennessee even North Carolina you can get snow and more chillier weather and each is fairly convenient to mountains. Further north you go the more you'll get to experience the four seasons in full swing. For the most full and beautiful effect I'd recommend Wisconsin or my favorite and somewhere with mountains - anywhere in New England. There's nothing like New England in the fall and in winter it's gorgeous, too! So get good grades, investigate those out of state schools, if money's a matter know that after one year somewhere you'll be able to get in state tuition which is much cheaper, and there ya go, you can be somewhere with four seasons and if you're in the midwest or on the east coast you'll be just a short plane ride to family/friends in FL. Best of luck & bear with it :) God Bless & Merry Christmas!

Yes, I agree, tourists are so annoying!! They consume the beaches in the summer!

That's all very true, but well, there's one thing that's not always so simple and that is - it's not always easy for everyone to like where they live. I wouldn't use the word hate, though. But listen, it's perfectly okay to severely dislike where you live. It happens to people. (Ask Martha Stewart, heehee.) It's so true to set your sights on the future. Dislike where you live all you want but the key, i believe, is to not dwell on it, at all. I have very much not liked (i hated) a few places I have lived. I complained but I tried not to. Then I left, I was free, went someplace better for my own personal tastes. You've just gotta at least try to make the best of it, if possible, when you're there and try not to let it get you down... or that'll hold you back from getting ahead.

:)

I grew up in Wisconsin, and came to hate, hate, hate the cold, but I really can't disagree with you on these points. I remember the first time I went back to Wisconsin for a visit. I walked up to an Oak tree and KISSED it!

The first time I went to St Augustine I noticed there were no palm trees. It sure looked good.

In Wisconsin I could go to the park and walk through the trees. I have discovered the hard way that Florida has a massive spider population.
