I've been thinking about getting an ATI Radeon 4850 HD or a NVIDIA GeForce 9800, but I don't really know much about video cards. I've heard some people say that NVIDIA cards offer superior performance while others seem to suggest that ATI is more stable or something. I've got no idea.

So I was wondering if any of you had any opinions or advice as to which one to get? I'm looking to spend up to $250 give or take a bit. I use my computer primarily for playing computer games like BF2142, WIC, and would like to be able to play Crysis without too much trouble (I probably won't be buying too many more newer games due to my processor's speed), but I would like to use very high quality settings without adversely affecting performance. Other than that, I use my computer typically to watch DVDs and Internet browsing.

I just hope this is the right spot for my question.

My system specs:
Processor: Pentium 4 3.06 GHz with Hyper Threading Tech enabled.
RAM: 4 GB (though it only seems to pick up 3.25 GB for some reason).
Current Video card: 512 MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT.
O/S: Both Windows XP and Vista - use XP for gaming and Vista for other stuff.

Cheers.

hi this is a short reply between my study break i have a exam in a few hour time sorry if its too short.

1. your processor speed may not be able to handle the latest card.
2. some card need power that connect directly from your computers power supply
3.there is a site call guru3d(google for it) they give great review on graphic cards. go into the review section, you wont be dissapointed.
