Because the New Zealanders whine too much otherwise, and it's easier to indulge them in their fantasy.

Seriously. Hobbits? Dragons? That didn't tip you off it's all imaginary?

I might have missed something in my reading of your statements.
If indeed it is just funnin then my apologies.

Wonder why no one has chosen the Heath Hen? Maybe because it isn't as well known even though we once ate them regularly. In fact, it is suspected that the Pilgrims ate them instead of the turkey during their Thanksgiving meal.

In 1927, only about a dozen were left – a mere two being females – despite being afforded the best protection according to contemporary science; that number had declined to a handful, all males, by the end of the year. After December 8, 1928, apparently only one male survived,[9] lovingly nicknamed "Booming Ben". He was last seen on his traditional lekking ground between West Tisbury and today's Martha's Vineyard Airport on March 11, 1932 – early in the breeding season -, and thus presumably died, about 8 years old, days or only hours afterwards from unknown causes.

The last known herd, numbering only 15 animals, was located near Outat El Haj, Morocco in 1917; all but 3 of them were killed by the same hunter. The last animal in Morocco was shot in Missour in 1925.

Pigeon pie somehow sounds a bit nauseating to me. Maybe its because there isn't much meat on these birds and I imagine dipping into the pie and coming up with small bones along with bits of black plumage.

Meat Pie Recipes

BTW
I once bought a chicken from an Arab vendor and placed it in the microwave. During the process of eating it I found that I was actually chewing on the chicken's head that the vendor had included and placed inside the bird. Totally ruined my day and killed my appetite. Never bought another from him again.

Last but not least the Western Black Rhino! This one was placed under protection but it made absolutely no difference. Poachers descended on it like white on rice and before we knew it we had sent it on its way into oblivion.

Western black rhino declared extinct - CNN.com

Here is how we died it!
The western black rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis longipes) or West African black rhinoceros is a subspecies of the black rhinoceros, declared extinct by the IUCN in 2011.[1][2] The western black rhinoceros was believed to have been genetically different from other rhino subspecies.[3] It was once widespread in the savanna of sub-Saharan Africa, but its numbers declined due to poaching. The western black rhinoceros resided primarily in Cameroon, but surveys since 2006 have failed to locate any individuals.

The western black rhinoceros was heavily hunted in the beginning of the 20th century, but the population rose in the 1930s after preservation actions were taken. As protection efforts declined over the years, so did the number of western black rhinos. By 1980 the population was in the hundreds. No animals are known to be held in captivity, however it was believed in 1988 that approximately 20–30 were being kept for breeding purposes.[11] Poaching continued and by 2000 only an estimated 10 survived. In 2001, this number dwindled to only five. While it was believed that around thirty still existed in 2004, this was later found to be based upon falsified data.[12]

That means that T Rex, Veliociraptors, Saber Toothed Tigers, Cave bears, and Magalodon would not be brought back because they are predatory? Herbivores over carnivores. Stellar's Cow ate Kelp.

Hold on.... Your list was all fairly recent human caused extinctions. I'm not ready to even consider bring back large dinosaurs.

True! I'm just curious on whether you consider animals undesirable to be brought back because they are predatory. In other words, is charismatic restricted to herbivores? Does predation automatically disqualify an animal from the charismatic category. Just curious.

I would personally tend to restore herbivores myself. Maybe it is a natural instinct because we imagine ourselves becoming prey? LOL!

Nothing charismatic about that!

No, I realise you are. I was referring to the generic, stereotypical YEC. I should also have put a :) after my comment.
I get the distinct impression that YEC are generally considered to be somewhat dense? Actually, anyone who deviates from the popularly accepted theories tends to be looked upon in that negative light.

Well who knew? Not me.

I thought surely they hunted. So in my own mind I wasnt choosing all herbivores.
It seemed that way to me too. I mean such a big animal! Then I had read about Terror Birds who did hunt. I personally tend to choose herbivores because despite eating beef, pork and fowl, I disagree with the predator prey system.

Oh I agree with it. Cull the weak, strengthen the herd. Makes excellent sense whether you thinks its natural or designed.

Some of those animals are slowly eaten while still alive. Neither are just the weak attacked. I have seen documentaries where the strong are targeted if they become accidentally isolated from the herd. Also, all creatures sicken occasionally and it has nothing do with being stronger or weaker. It just part of being alive. Others suffer unfortunate accidents and become hobbled. That has nothing to do with stronger or weaker. Sometimes a predator waits for two strong herbivores to fight for mating rights until exhausted. The they move in. Nothing to do with weaker. In short, hunting is an opportunistic activity that involves many strategies and factors unrelated to who is inherently stronger or weaker. In fact, killing both weaker ad strongest might cancel each other out and leave the herd as it was or worse.

Sure, but on average the stronger survive.

Its strictly functional and not a moral question at all. Imposing human morality makes no sense at all. If you believe in design, then do you wrestle with God over this?

Being moral creatures it is natural for normal humans to render moral opinions on all behavior whether it be animal or human. Actually, the inability to feel empathy for suffering is considered pathological state of mind.

Wrestle with whom? God? gods? a goddess?
Yes I would wrestle with God or any other entity that claims to be righteous and approves of such a thing. The only thing that prevents me is the claim that he doesn't approve of it and will remove it shortly.
