Which Religion Would You Pick?

Hypothetical Question.

Supposing that all religions were true, and you couldn't pick your own faith, which one would you choose and why?

Christianity. It is the most appealing. It is all about love and forgiveness, and that is what this world should be about anyways. Plus, it is the Truth.

I would probably be a Hindu, I find their beliefs and practices to be extremely fascinating.

I'd probably pick Judaism, seeing as Jesus was a Jew. Then I could join the Jews for Jesus movement...although I'm not sure how that works...but yeah. That's what I'd do.

Yeah, but why should it be? If everything is god, then nothing is worthy of reverence, as nothing could be superior to anything else in any way.

I guess if all faiths were the truth, and I wasn't already Christian, I would probably go with Christianity or Buddhism. The latter seems nice enough.

Buddhism? It's a religion that's core belief is "life is suffering". I don't get the appeal of Buddhism.

You do realize that your hypothetical situation cannot logically exist, right? Religions contradict each other, so they cannot all be true. Still, I'll play along. I'll play your game.

There really is only one logical answer after all. If "all religions were true," then really none of them would be true. Since they all contradict each other, it is impossible for them all to be true so only one belief would make sense in my mind. I would be an atheist.

Hypothetical or not I don't see the point of the question.

I don't see what benefit this thread has, seems like such a strange question. What is the point in answering a question that is hypothetical? Surely, we all need to focus on real situations?

It's not so much that we need to focus on real (as in factual) situations. Hypotheticals ARE useful for testing certain ideas, whereas it is often impractical to wait around until they actually apply to the real world. The problem is, in order for it to be so useful a hypothetical situation has to make internal logical sense - i.e., it has to be possible that it could apply to the real world. And this fails that qualification. It's logically impossible for all faiths to be true. It can be logically possible for all faiths to be false, but not true, because they all contradict one another. The hypothetical therefore makes as much sense as asking what you would do in a world where 2 + 2 = something other than 4. It's impossible to answer according to the terms of the question, and of no use to try to test the idea, since it can never have any real-world application. So the OP really shouldn't get angry when people adjust the hypothetical so that it makes more sense, and give answers that don't quite fit the original question.

seeing as this is a hypothetical and if I agree to play this(and not just wander on to another thread, it is the internet here after all) I must abide the rules, which I will gladly do,because I understand the difference between a what if question on the internet and selling my soul to the devil.

If all Religions are true, then I will find my own path that lies somewhere between Buddhism and Confucianism.


I have been watching a good deal of Foreign Films mostly set in China so I see what kind of life they produce on their own, I imagine a merging of the two would be interesting to say the least.

Since we're dealing with hypotheticals, what's to say that most religions don't contain some truth, but no religions contain all truth. Each religious dogma may contain something of value, yet fail to accurately depict the bigger picture. As such, it wouldn't be contradictory for those of different faiths to be approved of by God. Imagine that we're all wrong to varying degrees. This isn't unreasonable, considering the fact that people make mistakes, and much of our religious teachings are both subject to interpretations and have been passed down for generations. In many cases, at first by word of mouth. The idea that something is wrong with a system shouldn't imply that everything is wrong with it. Likewise, something can be wrong with a given system without people realizing it.
