  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Which Denomination do I fit in?

I have been raised in the United Methodist Church. Although Republican, I am more on the 'liberal' side of the Methodist body. I've always felt more sympathetic towards gays and other groups, and I feel like the Methodists are pretty much two denominations in one, especially on the trinity and gay issue. At least where I am. I do, however, feel comfortable within my church. Just maybe want to check out another one to see?

Here are some of my beliefs, what do you guys thing I fit as?

I am a firm supporter of Israel, believe in a congregationalist form of church governing and do NOT believe in the trinity... Christ is divinity and the one God imo. When we die, we lay in the ground until the second coming, where the saved will rise to the side of Christ and witness his judgment on all non-believers. Hell is real but not eternite, and Satan does not reign there (he is on Earth corrupting, he has never been in Hell!) and all who are not saved will go there until Christ sees their righteousness. All will be saved, even Satan, eventually, for God is all-forgiving.

Please, do not suggest non-denominational or unitarian or universalist.

Although i know little about them, you might find the The United Church of Christ | No Matter Who You Are Or Where You Are On Life's Journey, You're Welcome Here fitting. Your not going to find a church that confesses all that without going to a unitarian or universalist church. But there are many mainline denominations that are wide and accepting of many ideas.

Although not congegational you might find: Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and

and Home - Evangelical Lutheran Church in America fitting.

Hmmm... that is a universalist belief, though. I'm hard-pressed to think of a Christian group that believes that.

Revelation 20:10: "And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever."

Even if you don't take this as a literal verse, this certainly does not indicate that God will end up seeing the best in Satan. It's pretty clear that God intends to destroy Satan.

Best of luck on your journey.

Denominations are not neat little categories to choose from. As Paul points out in I Corinthians, fragmentation of the church is sinful. For this reason I suggest searching for a non-denominational church.

That said, you would probably find the Universalist Church of America to be more fitting to your beliefs. They are Bible-believing but simply interpret it differently than most Christians who believe in eternal damnation. I will say that the Bible makes more sense when interpreted in light of universal salvation.

I personally am a little more liberal and would be happy to join a Unitarian church, but most of them are humanists/buddhists, only about 1/3 are Christian. You probably won't find much Christian edification.

Believing that Jesus is God is part of the trinity.

You are a mix of SDA, Universalist, with a hint of Mormon. Dunno where the moral liberal plugs in (probably in the middle).

Pretty scary mix.

None of which are Christian. Belief in the Trinity is one of those non-negotiable Christian beliefs. To discard it is to discard the Christian label.

Have you ever been in a Mennonite church service? You might like it.

We will never perfectly fit into a denomination or church, no matter how hard we try.

Do you remember the tower of Babel story? People wanted to create a structure so perfect and wonderful that they could reach the heavens. Structures aren't bad, but obsessing over them can keep us from depending on God for a living, active faith.

If you're feeling like there should be more than just your church, then it would be healthy to attend concerts and special speakers at other churches, and get to know the fellowship of saints in your area. Step out a little more.

Look at why this is on your mind right now...

1. Are you feeling like "been there, done that" at your church?

-If so, consider getting more active, so each visit to church presents surprises and challenges. New people, new goals, things to do.

2. Are you hearing rude or intolerant comments from people in the church?

-One bad apple can make the whole bunch look rotten. Make sure to deal with your reactions to statements when they happen, and allow your own voice to be just as influential.

3. Are you feeling like you want conversation and action in the areas described?

- Maybe this is time for you to initiate something. Start a new activity that people can gain from. Very often when a person is passionate about an issue, it is THEM that God wants for incubating the next program.

contrary to popular belief I think UCC is a better fit than Universalist...I know some UR (Universalist Reconcilliationist) folks in the UCC and folks who dont believe in the trinity there. The UCC is widely diverse in regards to theological beliefs and views held
