  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Douay-Rhimes, KJV, NKJV, Catholic NAB.

I still really like the KJV. I would recommend that for Protestants before anything else. It's conservative, literal, beautiful, and easy to memorize.

I find the NIV easier to read than the KJV.

I personally use the NIV, KJV, and the ESV. Which bible version do you use and why
RSVce, the Catholic edition of the RSV. It is a reasonably precise translation. It is reasonably modern. It is a translation that is old enough that it has not gone all gender goofy. The Catholic edition fixed some mistakes in the base RSV. I can trust it to be above average in quality. There are study guides being written for it and a whole Ignatius Study Bible using that text is almost complete. And for years the Vatican has been using it as their main English language Bible.

I don't use the KJV because it is too archaic. I don't use the NIV because the translators did have their biases. And the ESV is one that I might consider.

I speak English from Florida.
The KJV is a foreign language to me.

Would you mind adjusting the post to allow multiple choices? I think it would reflect your opinion, and many others, better :)

I use the NIV for quoting in easy-to-understand English and listening, the KJV for memorizing any passages (especially the Psalms and Wisdom books, no other version is as amazing there to me), the LEB for a literal translation, and the DRA for my new main study translation and quoting since I found this site. Also since I have it (I also have an NIV and KJV), my Orthodox Study Bible, and I'll be getting an NRSV + Apocrypha soon.

I usually use KJV and ESV, and sometimes a NIV/NKJV side by side. I also have started using a RSV Lutheran study Bible that I have taken a liking to.

*edit
I also use Artscroll tanach frequently for the Jewish Scriptures.
