Where's the Recession?

Shrugging off doom-and-gloom predictions, U.S. economy manages to expand 0.6 percent in the first quarter.

Today at lunch I was trapped with CNN in my face. They were trying to tell me why a slow economy is worse than an actual recession. This after 200 poles asking viewers if they thought we were in a recession.

...or it could be that CNNs anchors are, like everyone else, unaware of the fact that the economy doesnt operate on a binary switch, where it's either expanding/receding, but rather a continuum of growth?

It bothers me to no end to hear the news media of all stripes quibble about whether "were in a recession." Nothing special happens when we're technically in a recession.

Fox News always have their own agenda. We have our own version of Fox News over here called Sky News. It is equally as comical.

Obviously you didn't read the link, or you would understand that two liberal universities found Fox to be the most centrist news organization on US television. But I'm not surprised you didn't read it. Hate to upset that cart of preconceptions you haul around with you.

And the BBC does get carried away?? They are the most anti-US propaganda outlet in Europe! Proof the UCLA-Missouri study findings on liberal bias in the media can be logically extended across the pond, too.

The Daily Mail reported Sunday on the secret London meeting of key executives, called by BBC chairman Michael Grade and hosted by veteran broadcaster Sue Lawley. The report revealed that many senior executives are deeply frustrated with the corporation’s commitment to “political correctness” and liberal policies at the expense of journalistic integrity and objectivity.

And I did read the article. Still doesn't prove anything. Fox News are a jokey entertainment program not a news channel.

In other words, "Don't bother me with facts. I'd rather cling to my own liberal bias." That's not reason talking, given what the academic study proved, reinforced by the memo linked above. Thanks for playing though.

The second story is an Associated Press story. The key to knowing that is seeing the words "associated press" at the top of the page.

The O'Reilly Factor? Sure it's entertainment. It's in prime time. Bill is obnoxious, cuts people off and generally donimates the show. But the fact remains, he is centrist, not right or left. Don't believe me? Actually watch the show tonight when Hillary Clinton is on. You might learn something.

Fox News is one of two American entertainment channels we receive over here. I do watch it whenever I want a laugh. If there is something big going on its so funny watching the reporters fluff their lines while going into sheer panic. All the other news channels don't provide that kind of entertainment.

Do you seriously expect me to know the name of every university in America? Come on. Do you know the names of all the universities in Europe? I do remember one Fox News broadcast saying how many Americans couldn't even point Europe out on a map of the world. Can you?

To be honest most Americans I know could point out Europe on a map so I wasn't sure who they interviewed for their survey.

The ones that watch fox news know where it is. On the other hand, who cares where it is.
