In the Bible, Jesus says, "I came not to bring peace, but a sword." It's fairly obvious that he meant a literal sword, because he later told people to go out and buy swords, and he was probably referencing that quote when he did so.

Is it possible that we could find where the sword is? I'm betting it's in the Middle East somewhere. Why isn't there an organization already searching for it? This is a really important part of apologetics. I mean, we're looking for the Ark, but not the sword, when the sword would, by itself, prove that Jesus was the real son of God?

The sword isn't literal; its about dividing people between those who love God and show it and those who don't, which is something that will divide siblings, parents from children, and so on and so forth.

The Love of God is divisive as our response to it will not be the same: many will reflect it visibly, others reflect it but only God realizes it, and others who won't because they reject it.

This sword;

Heb 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword , piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. KJV

Which is the same as this sword;

Eph 6:17
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: KJV

More on that...

Listen, O coastlands, to Me, And take heed, you peoples from afar! The LORD has called Me from the womb; From the matrix of My mother He has made mention of My name. And He has made My mouth like a sharp sword; In the shadow of His hand He has hidden Me, And made Me a polished shaft; In His quiver He has hidden Me. -Isa 49:1,2

Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. -Rev 19:15

Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, "Behold, this [Child] is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed." -Luke 2:34,35

He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him--the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. -Jhn 12:48

The "sword" is a fascinating subject.

With God, anything is possible

Blue Letter Bible - Lexicon
Strong's Number G4501 matches the Greek ῥομφαία (rhomphaia), which occurs 7 times in 7 verses in the Greek concordance
1) a large sword 2) properly a long Thracian javelin, also a kind of long sword wont to be worn on the right shoulder

Rev 2:12
And to the messenger of the assembly in Pergamos write:
These things saith He who is having the sharp two-edged sword:

I looked up "sword" in a concordance and found there are 2 different greek words used for it.

This is the one referenced Matt 10:34:

Blue Letter Bible - Lexicon
Strong's Number G3162 matches the Greek μάχαιρα (machaira), which occurs 29 times in 26 verses in the Greek concordance

Outline of Biblical Usage
1) a large knife, used for killing animals and cutting up flesh
2) a small sword, as distinguished from a large sword
a) curved sword, for a cutting stroke
b) a straight sword, for thrusting

I'm still looking for that flaming sword in the Garden, have you heard anything about that one? Why would God need a flaming sword to stand guard is real strange to begin with. But it is written in the Book as sure as the sword you speak about. Yep, Jesus had a sword but am not sure what happened to it.

Considering that our Lord rebuked Peter for using his sword, saying those who live by the sword will die by the sword, it's safe to say that He neither had a sword, nor thought we should either.

The first and only time one of His followers used one, He rebuked them. Christians + swords don't mix.

Well I have been in different places of growth throughout my life and Gods presence or hope of...yes in the beginning it is not always a super spiritual thing when we become Christians...it is about growing so questions like this whether we think it a joke or not...can be quite serious for some.
Not everyone has experienced the Baptism of the Holy Spirit something I also call the Shekhinah Glory Cloud...also if you have gone through this you also know it is the sword.

For those who have not gone through this they just might think it is interpreting the scriptures correctly or they might think it to be a sword...but how are they to know...I did not know until I was well into my thirties...then later on down the road found out that God abided in us...I got it first without understanding it...did not know until I was forty that God dwelled inside :( but I experienced the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Even if this question was a joke...then others who do not know that might go on some adventure of finding a literal sword...will know once they get to the scriptures of Asking God for the Holy Spirit...they will know that they have found it.

Genesis 3:23-24 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So He drove out the man; and He placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

The Cherubims, (sons of God which includes us), keep the way of the tree of life because...we follow the ways of our Savior who is The Word which is also the Tree of Life. We hold the flaming sword in our hearts and minds and that flaming sword/s-word is fire in our mouths because we "speak this word."
Jeremiah 5:14 Wherefore thus saith the Lord God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make My words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

I keep wondering if this is like the first reference to a lightsaber. Maybe God is the original Jedi Knight.

Dude, I have it in my own personal collection....along with the Shroud of Turin and the Ark of the Covenant. Man that Ark is really a bummer to move, you know if you touch it you die. Totally like Indiana Jones. Anyway...SHHHHH....I dont want anyone to find out.

ok, I get it.

We pick and choose which verse is read literally or allegorically. So, after all these years I have been seeking a flaming sword guarding a garden only to now discover that it was merely a symbolic representation.

So, there are many symbolic representations in the Bible, that appears how the Jewish scribes scribed, correct? Think about it, concerning the Bible, the latest in technology was of first century, so too was literature, philosophy, science, etc...

So Audacious, I guess many other questions must be asked and answered. Did a serpent really walk and talk and convince Eve to bite the fruit, did Moses and Elijah really appear during the transfiguration, is there really a place called hell where many spend eternity? Is it all allegory or just some parts and which parts?

Allegory in the Bible or the Bible as Allegory by David Teubner
