Not sure why you two think we need your input as to what the Bible says.
Because we both can read, and at least one of us believes the Bible to be divinely inspired. We are both as entitled to have an opinion on what the Bible says as you are.

Okay, and of all the places, you choose to visit christianforums.com to express your opinion, because...?
No one's forcing you to be here.

You were the one who claimed that the Bible was not credible and when pressed the only example you gave was easily explained away.

If discussing the Bible is "off-topic" - in a discussion about a Biblical event - then don't make claims about it that you cannot support?

Asking me about the 'truth' of the Bible (of which getting striped goats from getting them to look at striped rods is not truth at all, since it's a biological impossibility), along with talking about the miracles of the Bible, and my own personal views on the Bible, when the subject of the OP is clearly defined, that is going off-topic.

Sticking to the subject of the Flood is staying on topic, since that's what the OP is about. Maybe try that instead of boring people to death with an absolute wall of text.

The only people this website isn't open to is towards Satanists, and also this sub-fora of the website is explicitly open to non-believers. If you want to converse with just Christians, there are Christian only areas of the website.

Because this is a place where persons of all religions--and none--come to express their opinions about science and religion and hear the opinions of others, and discuss them. That is the express purpose for which this forum was created. Why are you here? Is anyone forcing you?

My suspension of disbelief is rather struggling on this one. Since when did internet board discussion changed anyone's mind about anything? You and I fully well know that 'expressing opinion' is mere euphemism for 'arguing to spend time idly'. Besides, if what you claim were really the fact of the matter, you would rather be at reddit, where things are really 'free for all'.
Why insist on sites *specifically* orientated toward Christian mindset??
Purpose of this board notwithstanding, I am having a difficult time seeing the point...

The point is that this website is open to people who class themselves as non-believers, therefore if they wish to be here, they can choose to be here. If you don't want to engage with them, go to the area of the website marked as Christian Only. No-one is forcing you to interact with non-believers except yourself.

It’s also a place where one risks hearing a reason to ( shudder)
think about some so -precious belief.

For me, the purpose is to learn from others who have a different opinion than my own, to find out why they hold the views they do. It helps me to know how to respond to them more effectively in the outside world.

If you are incapable of learning or change, too bad.
Others are.
You could see the point if you are capable of learning anything.

(the irony being, of course, that nobody here changed their stance even a bit after all this time.)

You don't know that at all.
Indeed. I've been here 22 years. The first 6 of which I was a believer. So, yeah, I can change my mind. And, to some extent, my interactions on various forums affected my state of affairs.

Sometimes, when asked, I answer that yes, it is possible I might come back to Christianity. I never thought I would leave in the first place. If I was wrong about that, I can be wrong that I might never come back--though I will say that the older I get the less plausible it seems.

I mean, stepping away from it does count as a change, I guess. They never asked what kind of change afterall.

Okay. I am interested in hearing one of the positions of which you changed your mind over via the interaction on this website..

I once saw that Biblical literalism was just a so-so commentary on the Bible, a kind of funny little foible of Christians, especially American Christians. Now I see it as something horribly misguided, especially when espoused by certain types of Christians, after interacting with them on this site.

That's cementing of viewpoint, rather than a change in viewpoint.

I beg to differ. If it was a cementing of a viewpoint, I would still see it as a so-so commentary, a foible. Seeing it as something horribly misguided, which is seeing it as something worse than a foible and definitely worse than something so-so, is definitely a change in viewpoint.

A change in viewpoint does not mean something needs to be changed for the positive, especially by your standards.

I think you expect too much from discussions like this. I will repeat my previous statement: For me, the purpose is to learn from others who have a different opinion than my own, to find out why they hold the views they do. It helps me to know how to respond to them more effectively in the outside world. I don't know what it is like in Korea, but in this country the conflict that Fundamentalist Christians have stirred up between science and religion has a serious effect on public policy issues which effect all of us, Christians and non-Christians alike. I would like to learn more about it from Fundamentalist Christians themselves, rather than just from the politicians who front for them.

Sure, but non-positive change in viewpoint is certainly is not what architects of this site had in mind, methinks.
