That still doesn't address the question of why Satan was still present with Job if Hell already existed.
I wasn't aware Satan was present with Job; but then, I don't know what you mean by that, either.

Satan is present with all of us. He walks around, as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

According to Bob Larson, Satan is not omnipotent, therefore he expends a lot of energy walking around on the earth; so one day a year, October 31st, he takes a break, but he sends his minions to do his bidding.

I don't know how true that is, but it certainly sounds plausible.

Incidentally, it's not when we put on black robes and chant inside of a pentagram that we are most satanic ... that's kid stuff.

We are most satanic when we ...

Galatians 5:5 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.

It is not necessary to make it say more than it does or to leave out what belongs. First thing is Satan is a son of god even though he is a disobedient one. Judgement day is yet to come. Until then he has the right to meet with god and the other sons of god whenever they convene. When the judgement of angels does come, we will be there. "Know ye not that we shall judge angels." Secondly, at the present time, Satan Lucifer is temporarily the god of this world. Creator god is allowing the whole universe (men and angels) to witness how badly he is doing it before taking his domain away from him. God has the power to intervene but he has allowed Satan time to make his case in his accusations against god. Meanwhile Satan as he said in job is walking to and fro in the earth seeking any way he can to discredit god. In god's time he will say "enough" and take the kingdom of earth away from the devil and hand it to Christ. So don't blame god for the works of the devil who killed Gods Christ. God didn't try to make Job sin, the devil did. God stood up for Job and bet against him sinning. It was a good bet and god rewarded Job. One needs to get the big picture here...the background is eternity and god is giving the whole thing to saved mankind not as an end but as a new beginning. This is no small thing it is bigger than huge. Man being made in the fullness of the image of God to be like him and share in his ongoing eternal work. Not a thing to mock I wouldn't think.

Wasn't it God the commanded Satan to smite Job - he handed him over and said do what you like to him as long as you spare his life.

He's not omnipotent but he is metaphysical - right? So why would he need to expend energy, when he is beyond the natural world?

no he never commanded him to do it. He allowed it because it was what Satan decided to do and he was temporary reigning on earth as god. So god lifted his hedge around Job according to what Satan decreed. Still God trusted that Job would overcome and he did. Since faith is a gift from God, He probably gave Job the faith he needed. Every good gift comes from God. Part of Job's reward was a new wife. His old wife was a scorner who despised him and said, "curse God and die." Job did neither, he praised God and lived. Job understood that the suffering of this world is as nothing when compared with the eternal glory to come. The light still shines in the darkness and the darkness still comprehends it not.

That's a good question! I agree with your point.

Another theory, is that October 31st is celebrated as Satan's birthday.

King James Version (KJV)
2 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord.

2 And the Lord said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

3 And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.

4 And Satan answered the Lord, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.

5 But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.

6 And the Lord said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.

7 So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

8 And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.

9 Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.

10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

That depends on where you live and what you believe I suppose.

Where I live it is celebrated as Hop-tu-Naa and is nothing to do with the Bible, Satan or Christianity.

Correct ... Lucifer is a "son of God."

There are two ways to be a "son of God:"

  1. By direct creation (the angels, Adam).
  2. By adoption.
Thus Lucifer was a "son of God" by creation ...

Job 38:6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

... as was Adam ...

Luke 3:38 Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.

Interesting.

Off the record, were the Celts the first people to inhabit the British Isles?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Part of a series on the
History of the British Isles

The British Isles have experienced a long history of migration from across Europe. Over the millennia, successive waves of immigrants have come to the Isles. The ancient migrations have mainly come via two routes: along the Atlantic coast and from Germany/Scandinavia. The main settlement came in the Palaeolithic and Mesolithic periods. There is currently[when?] no strong evidence of a human paleolithic presence in Ireland.[1][2][3]
Research into this prehistoric settlement is controversial, with differences of opinion from many academic disciplines. There have been disputes over the sizes of the various immigrations, as well as to whether they were peacefully integrated. In the latter part of the second millennium, the finds of archeology allowed a view of the settlement pattern to be inferred from changes in artifacts. Since the 1990s the use of DNA has allowed this view to be refined.

If I recall my Dante correctly, Hell was created by the impact of Satan on the earth when he was cast out of heaven. The corresponding peak on the opposite side of the earth is Mount Purgatory.
That's why Dante isn't in the Bible.

When was Hell created?

It says in Genesis that God created everything and that it was good. Including the tree of knowledge of good and evil. How could there be knowledge of evil, if God did not create anything that was evil?

It is also said that it was a talking serpent that beguiled Eve into eating of this tree, but as one of God's creations surely the serpent would be good?

In the past I have heard that it was Satan and not the Serpent, but how can this be, because Satan is still in God's company even in the book of Job and had not yet been cast out. It is not until the very end of the Bible that we hear of the fall in revelations.

'Hell' was invented to strike fear into people and not found in the bible. That does not mean people who are not saved go unpunished in the lake of fire.
