  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

To quote and answer a question And what about when you ask and ask, but hear only silence?

Thats me "ask and ask" and get silence. Silence that makes you feel HURT and TEMPTED to curse God and give up on Him. Silence, and deep silence when God seems unloving, unfair, unjust, unmerciful as tears drop down on the foor and your heart breaks. Hurt when you see others being blest by God and He turns His back on you it seems, Hurt when God seems to have put a mark on you and seems to put you through every sdaness possible..I know what hurt is. But God allows these agonising silences to mature our faith and trust in His PROMISES. You see when the widow pleaded to jesus for her child, Jesus met her with SILENCE, she felt rejected hurt and like giving up. She may have said "I though this Jesus was Kind etc" But you know whar she did? She PERSISTED and didnt give up she KNEW what God could do and would do even In the face of rejection. Jesus then turned and blest her.

God will be silent at times as He has to me, for year upon year NO ANSWER not for lack of faith nor a sinful life but TIMING, His timing must be right His will must be first His Kingdom must come first. Our feeble tarnished dull gold souls must be polished by the furnace of suffering, waiting and testing.

Dont give up on what you know will happen. Dont give up on the promises He has made to you, when silence comes it will pass by and blessing will come again as for me it has.
Every sorrow you suffer will make your love and experinence of God the more heavenly
Bless you John

Beautifully worded! My hardest struggle is waiting PATIENTLY for God's timing and it seems like the last 7 months that has been becoming harder and harder to do and I just keep getting more and more frustrated with everything. I really needed to hear that today, so thank you! It's things that I already know, but for some reason just can't get it from my head to my heart no matter how hard I try. It does help to be reminded of them every now and again.

One thing you said made me think about the process of refining gold. The gold is melted down and is brought to an incredilbly high temp which causes all the impurities to come to the surface where they can be scraped off. This process is completed over and over and over again until the refiner can look into the gold and clearly see his reflection. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I know I can see times where the temp has gotten quite hot!

I think that this is VERY important to keep in mind. Don't manufacture promises when God has not made them.

Ok, good point. How do we know what promises God has made to us (besides those in the Bible, of course)?

I can't think of any, although I'm willing to have someone demonstrate differently. I know that some people make up promises as they see fit.

Good question. But we should even becareful with the promises that we take from the Bible as well. There are promises that are provided for every Christian like "I will never leave you or foresake you". However, the Bible is also filled with specific promises to individuals like "I will make you the father of many nations".

The Holy Spirit living in all of us will guide us if we allow Him to.

"...I know that some people make up promises as they see fit."

Nice.

I was talking to my best friend last night and he was touching on something very similar to this. Personally, I have been learning more and more the reality of the Sovereignty of Jesus. I was telling him that lately, if hard times come- I don't complain. I simply release any "ownership" I have of the problem and give it completely to the Lord, saying "things will work out."
He then went on to ask, "What do you mean 'work out?'...I just ask because so many people have lost sight of the real meaning of these words and they have now come to mean something like, 'God knows that I don't agree with this- but if I "give it to Him" He'll come around and things will fall into place to my liking."
Oh MAN! I love my friend!!...I had thought about that but I had NEVER heard it put this way. He went on to say-- " When you give it to God and say things will work out, things will work out according to His riches and glory...whether they be in your favor or not, praise Him. Because like you said, HE is in control."

I was just so blessed by my friend. I just thought I'd share this with you all. I am in total agreement.

Blessings.

Thanks for the encouragement Songz. As always your words are beautiful and very meaningful to us who are still waiting for the fulfilment of his promises. Bless you

Sometimes, knowing that God is glorified in waiting is the only thing that keeps me going. On occasion I come to the point "when silence falls" in my response to God. I just am, silently turned towards him. Madeleine L'engle describes "the other side of silence" as the place where her writings take on a life of their own. The silence we're discussing in this thread is of a different context, but maybe it can be recontextualized to describe our state when waiting before God. He brings us into silence so that we can emerge on the other side of silence, which means that there is both a beginning and an end to the silence. And one day, we realize we are the person we were hoping to become someday, because of God's silent power.

It isn't God giving you the silent treatment but his ways and will works to the best of you if you give your all to him. Every bit of it.

Sometimes I wonder if we're too self-centered in our thinking of "God works for good." I'd venture far enough to say that the world would fall apart if everyone received everything for their good. Did you see Bruce Almighty? Jim Carey's character at times thought he was doing the right thing by giving some people what they wanted or needed, but in doing so others suffered. It's difficult--impossible, even--but I think we should focus our thinking more on the big picture and how God's will may be working for good there.

Jim Carrey's character wanted to get back at people as well as hurt them. Sometimes I admit I want to do that but know that is dead wrong!!

Yes, but I wasn't referring to that. I was only talking about the instances in which he was answering prayers.
