"Do not resist an evil person" has nothing to do with this situation as it makes sense when concerning your own life ONLY. First of all we are responsible for what we are trusted with. But if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? (Lk.16:11)
wife ?= wealth ???? :| dunno what you mean there...
''The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it.'' (Jn.10:12) ''While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.'' (Jn.17:12)
why did you cite this? I will not 'own' my wife.

Okey, you aren`t going to love your wife much enough to kill someone for her sake BUT would you also let the same guy murder you children?
love = concern for eternal well-being according to the bible. I never said anything about letting! sheesh. I said (third time) that if the guy had the choice between a guy shooting his wife or the guy shooting the would-be murderer, which would be better; to have the murderer alive so that he may have a better chance to repent perhaps, or to do evil myself and send the man straight to hell, even though the wife would go to heaven?

This theoretical situation was not meant to be a thing about self-defense. I was talking about when it is okay to kill, which i think it is never justified. i will do anything that is not sin ('sin is transgression of the law') ie dispose my life, bound the man, take the gun, something of that nature, but would not kill the man. why? because doing so is sin. sin is transgression of the law, and the law says 'thou shalt not kill'. now the government has a God-given right through the courts to execute (if you wanna argue, try another thread; off-topic to argue this), but we as individuals do not have the right to kill another human being.

Me arguing? No way, man! :D
Well, I`m sure you have a clear idea of my meaning.

''Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.'' (Pr.31:10) Your wife is your worldly wealth, it`s also one of the true riches, though. May G-d never allow anyone touch your wife even inwardly lest you should solve the problem practically.

''The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it.'' (Jn.10:12) English version doesn`t convey the true meaning of the original. In this verse ''own'' can`t be translated as ''possess'' cos here it`s like in ''own child'' that is ''own sheep''. So, may you be a good shepherd, above all, for your own wife.

Yes, G-d said ''thou shalt not kill'' but before that he had sent Abraham to offer his only son. As you remember Abraham had to kill Isaac before burning him and the patriarchy would have done it, no doubt. G-d stopped him, why? Because He saw that Abraham had already done it in his heart and thus hadn`t withheld his only son from G-d. Didn`t G-d know that it was killing? See, it was the question of devotion, the question of willingness.

God bless.

God knew and i believe Abraham aslo knew that he would not actually sacrifice Isaac. Abraham himself says to his son that the Lord will provide a sacrifice, and this is what happened. I do not in any way wish to demean Abraham's action, but i believe Abraham had faith in God to fulfill His promises to make a nation through his son.

and you did not answer my assertion that 'thou shalt not kill' is still valid. :) still think killing is okay?

PS, i made your post smaller for space. :) hope you don't mind.

Lmao, are you nuts? It is ok to kill as long as someone calls it a war? Thats about the dumbest thing I've heard. Ok, so what if a group of Canadian rebels declare war against your neighborhood? They must have the right to slaughter your family right? Or does a president of a country have to say it? Your reasoning if flawed. People declare wars for all kinds of wrong reasons, that does not mean innocent people should die.

My ministry in the body of Christ is the ministry of love. It would be strange if I said that killing is okay. Surely not. I spend pretty much time counseling different people and praying. My Lord is my love and everything. Still, I am a warrior and whoever touches someone I love touches the apple of my eye. (Ze.2:8)

PS of course I don`t mind :)
