I would probably have to agree as well. Trying to marry anyone that is old enough to be your dad usually isn't a good idea. Yea, when Ruth married Boaz it looked to turn out alright, but circumstances in those days aren't the same they are today, and it doesn't mean the marriage was very fulfilling, but at least it appears that it wasn't harmful to either of them. People also married multiple wives in those days too, which is something that Jesus later denounced as something that shouldn't have happened.

How long have they been dating? How long did they know each other before they dated? What do the parents think?

The maturity level seems as though it would be too dramatic at this time (based on age) and usually a 19 year old really isn't ready to settle and the 19 yr old may wander in a few years. But that is all speculation based on the average teenager and does not mean it applies here.

It really depends. You gave way too limited information to give an educated response, IMO. I have a good friend who lost her father at the age of 21. She was the youngest of four and was Daddy's Little Girl. His death rocked her world and she struggled to deal with it. About 3 years after his death she met a guy who was about 15 years her senior. They dated for a short time and then married. Everyone speculated that she was replacing her father figure and didn't give the relationship much merit. However, they are still married almost 10 years later and the relationship is thriving.

I know how it is. One of my friend's from high school is 19 and she's dating a man in his 40s. He has grandchildren. I guess there's nothing wrong with it if they really do have a good relationship, but I just can't help myself in thinking she's being taken advantage of.

Remember that Ruth had already been married for 10 years to Elimelech and was childless that whole time before she met Boaz. The book never gave a specific age on either of them.

I think it depends on the two involved. Age can matter in some instances and not matter a bit in others.

I don't support large age gaps in any situation. Even if the marriage "works out" I still don't support it :)

I think your friend has issues and the 34 year old guy wants a hot young thing on his arm. Can't really blame him there, but it screams to me that his priorities are in the wrong place.

As a guy, sure I can understand having a hot young thing on his arm, but people in the 34 age range are hot, just like people in our age range are hot!

I guess there's some things I'll never understand.

Long term investment. But by now, he should know that the maturity gaps are making that less likely.
