i have some volunteer flower seeds comming up, and the last of the cannas are blooming, but we've got just weeks left before the first expected frost,
(it will be late again this year), so there's not much happening outdoors.

The fuchsias, begonias and sedums are still flowering, but the box has berries and the leaves are changing colour. Some of the bedding plants have grown amazingly so the border is looking very full. Bulbs are planted ready for spring. I'll probably cluster the pots together, in a few weeks, in case of frost.

It seems that you're ready for winter pdudgeon. :)

I love the picture musicalpilgrim. :)

Our roses are gearing themselves up, almost ready to open, though a few have opened already as if to give me a taste of what's to come. :)

My garden, at this time of year, would be barren. If I had one.

We're fortunate in that the place we moved to this year already had many roses and stuff, so that was cool. Today I noticed two lovely double roses which have opened. Lovely as I rarely see double roses.

It's funny that when people mention roses, I can almost smell them! A childhood memory of my grandmother's garden I think. :) I can't remember ever having seen double ones though. How nice that the plants were already there joyshirley. :)

Another lovely picture musicalpilgrim and the daisies are very striking. :)

I've never grown begonias before and am amazed how well they are flourishing both in the border and in pots. I'm wondering if our seasons have changed slightly as last year we had flowers into December but little, apart from bulbs, until June.

I love fuschias and camellias, specially red camellias, and I know it's because when I was little, my nana and grandpa had those plants at their home. I loved those plants with their profusion of flowers. We are fortunate that there are several camellias here where we live now and they have just finished flowering.

yep, i am almost ready for Winter.
i still have to rake my "pine straw"
(that's what we call dropped pine needles around here)
and I'm waiting for the first frost to prune back the cannas.
I can't believe it but they're still sending up blooms!

last lawn mowing of the Season will happen next week, and then
that should be done for the year.

Perhaps you could get a few pot plants, MW. :)

I'm visiting my Dad right now and his garden is looking good, with the promise of flowers very soon. Lots of roses about to open any minute now.

Roses are so beautiful! :)

I've had a good autumnal clear up today: sweeping leaves, pruning a few things and generally tidying up. I love gardening on fresh autumn days.

My husband has been sweeping/raking leaves off the lawn, and then they all appear again in the morning. It is going to be cold tonight, and by weekend it will warm up again, life is never dull in England. We are in the foothills of the Pennine hills and the weather changes quickly.
This is Hartshead Pike, which is quite near by...my granddaughter's favourite walk at the moment with her friends.

preparing for our first frost tonight. this might be it for the cannas for this year.

what i found really interesting this year was that a black and yellow spider took up residence in the canna bed, and laid her eggs inside a rolled-up canna leaf.
she would lay her eggs inside the canna tube and then neatly stitch up the outside of the leaf with a web seam (just like a blanket stitch!) so that the leaf would not unroll!
I thought that was pretty clever.
