  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's your background?

"Greeks of the North" we call you sometimes you know - both mad, both eternally rebelious, both with a nominal respect for the religion, and actually the only nations in western / westernized europe still producing considerable amounts of contemporary music on traditional motives.

French Huguenot, English, probably some Irish, and German. I really don't know. The farthest back my family has been traced on one side is to a Revolutionary War soldier (American side). The other side, well, my mom claims we're descended from French Huguenots, so I bet they are spinning in their graves as their great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-granddaughter has returned to liturgical worship! ;)

I consider myself first and foremost American. I have relatives that were born in Alabama before it became a state. However, American is pretty much synonomous with "mutt" :p so my "heritage" is Welsh, Scottish, English and German.

50% Czech (probably moravian) and 50% Germanic. (immigrant ancestor came from Signau, Switzerland, and then married a German girl from the Rhineland, and came to america in... 1728 I believe.)

A goodly number of Czechs today are 50% Germanic at most (including the president) because of the Hapsburgs ruling over them. I consider myself a Czech.
