COWARDS! Now that'd be a bike race I'd like to watch! Anyone can dodge cars, little kids, bricks thrown from highway overpasses but it'd take real skill to dodge lightening bolts!;):p:thumbsup:^_^
:D Well, as fate would have it, the rain stopped and the sun dried
up the puddles just in time for the race. For 9 hrs, bikes raced by
my house as crowds gathered to cheer them on. Quite a pleasant
day it was.

Today, the sun remains bright and cheery. :)

We could, have some rain in a while Sue Sis'

After a LONG weekend break... Friday through to this morning
The contractors are BACK!!

A carpenter spent all of 'ten minutes' in the bathroom
erecting, a 2" x 1" batten frame for the bath panel and then said:
"Right I am off now, I will be back to fit the panel after they have laid the flooring"

Gosh! that, is 'two days away' ... and then the tiling and fitting of the shower!!!!
This is TWO WEEKS ..... without the bath !!!!!

:)

Somebody opened the door on the blast furnace. Hot today, high 95F under partly cloudy skies. Lows in the mid 70s F

Right now, 74F (which is as low as it got here in the wee hours of the morning) under partly cloudy skies. Lake effect rain on the South end of Lower Michigan, but none here in the Western 'Burbs of Chicago.

Ecclesiastes 3

There is an old saying you get more cooperation with a gun and a smile than just the gun alone. I suggest two things: 1)find a guy on Craigslist who can complete the work and 2)File a small claims lawsuit against the contractor.

Imagine telling the judge: "your honor, for 2 weeks the wife and I couldn't shower or bathe so we had another company do the work and we'd like to be re-embursed for the lame work such and so did" and back it up with paperwork and photographs.

For what its worth- Larry

Thanks Larry

Here, we may not have 'use of guns', to impose our 'desires' upon anyone

It is 'the landlord' that employs the contractors
~to bring their properties 'up-to-date'

We are told, we [everyone] will receive 'compensation'
in the amount of @ £270 / $360 (equivalent)
for their disturbance and inconvenience
ie: also to cover the cost of, making good, the decorations around the works
~'made necessary, by the works'

They had, a SCHEDULED PLAN
but it has changed so much, from the original, we can ignore that completely
[due: to unexpected complications arising in earlier works, elsewhere in the neighborhood]

The tilers came in today, to find, that plastering works and other preparatory work
had not been completed in the bathroom
So they, have gone off 'in a huff' and gotten management [on site]
to arrange for labourers to come-in, and play catch-up, in there

Tiling, is therefore adjourned [sine-die] :D

If we don't laugh at their ineptitude, we could

We have the chief electrician coming back shortly
~to sort out the fluorescent tube light fitting in the bathroom [it keeps flickering]
and the extractor-fan in the kitchen no-longer functions properly
~no-longer 'switches' down [automatically] after 15 minutes @ full power
ever since the wall switch plate was replaced, by a new one

It is similar 'hang-ups' in other homes,
that has disorganized the works schedule so much
and our house, is just the latest 'pain in their butt'

They would have an awful job to organize a 'decent binge-up' ~in a brewery

*Big sigh* Swell- and you're in England so any idea of United State's laws are almost impractical at best.

I've got to admit one thing though- if our Barristers (I think that's the right term for attorneys? Here a "barrister" is the correct name for the railing along a flight of stairs believe it or not) wore YOUR kind of official wigs backwards Justice might be served more equally for then Justice would truly be blind!^_^

Oh Dave, I do feel for you  but it sounds so funny. :D I know it must be hard to live through though and I pray that it will be finished soon. Does it help to say that at least we're not having the heatwave we had in July? :)

Here it's mild and dry.

SNAP!!! Dry and mild, it is here also Sue Sis'

Yes I must agree, that cool is better than sweltering
I am so happy not to have-to endure 'three digit temperatures'

Had they been 'privately contracted' [by us] to do our home
I would have fired them out after just two days
I could have done 90% of what they have done so far [in one week]
[in my present 'state']

It will be, nearly four weeks [altogether]
before they say 'goodbye' to us

Yes, I have-to acknowledge, that tradesmen [these days] leave lots to be desired

I am not bragging here
but I was approached by the Guild Of Master Craftsmen
to join them [on a subscription basis]
~because "We have received such good reports from your customers"
and "examined your works"

I turned them down, because I knew [for certain] that many firms
who, displayed GOMC shields on their vans, were total cowboys
and realized that membership of the Guild, would do me no big favours

I did run Yellow Pages adverts for two years, now that WAS worth £300 per year
