We have had an extended period of late season warmth in Upstate New York with high temperatures in October almost every day through Oct 16 in the 70's. The highest temperature was 78 on Oct 8. Overnight lows were often in the upper 50's. The temperature at Griffiss at 6AM on Oct 16 was 68. The 6AM temperature in Syracuse was 72. A cold front came through on Oct 16. The high temperature Oct 17 was 54.
The unusual warmth, especially elevated low temperatures have led to a delayed fall color change. Somewhat cool temperatures in early October led to some change but these trees due to wind and rain were largely stripped bare while the majority of trees remained green. With some cooler weather recently there has been some additional color with many areas still not at peak locally even though there has been some moderate leaf drop. Typically leaves at this point are past peak.
